Kate Beckinsale has been open in the past about the fact that fitness hasn't *always* been her jam. But now, she's all in with working out to feel her best physically and mentally—and it shows.

Kate didn't start exercising until she was in her 20s, when director Michael Bay asked her to lose weight for the 2001 movie Pearl Harbor. “It wasn’t great, it didn’t make me feel good," she told Women's Health of the experience. Despite the sucky reason she started exercising in the first place, Kate's come to learn working out on the reg has perks. “Now exercise is almost more important to me mood-wise,” she said. Of course, she's built her super-strong body from all of her workouts, but she said the physical part feels "like a great side effect.”

Now, Kate regularly shares videos and pictures on Instagram of herself crushing workouts and just being all-around active. If you're not familiar with the ins and outs of Kate's fitness routine but want to feel seriously inspired, here's a closer look at just about everything she does to look and feel this good.

1

She works out first thing in the morning.

The Underworld film series star told WH that she's a morning exerciser. "I wake up, eat something, and go straight to the gym," she said. That's not all—she sometimes throw in two-a-days. "If I’m going to do cardio, I’ll do it later on in the day," she said.

2

She doesn't mess around during workouts.

Some people like to chat or goof off before they start working out to ease into the whole thing—not Kate. Brad Siskind of Gunnar Peterson’s gym, said that the actress gets down to business ASAP. "The whole hour is work," he told WH.

3

She exercises most days of the week.

You'll find Kate working up a sweat (nearly) every day of the week with her trainer, Siskind. Before she hits the gym, she likes to eat some kind of protein, like chicken or eggs with grass-fed butter. The rest of the day she likes salads with radishes, Brussels sprouts, and safflower oil; salmon; and a handful of potato chips here and there. Because life is short.

She likes to work several muscle groups at once.

Kate is big into compound exercises—that is, moves that work several parts at once. She kicks off her workouts with eight compound exercises that work two muscle groups at once, like biceps curls as she squats, or situps with combination punches.

5

She's into intervals.

After working through her compound exercises, Kate will do 90 to 120 seconds of a cardio interval, like rowing or the VersaClimber. She'll follow that up with her set of eight exercises again, but with heavier weights, bands, or faster reps. That all takes about 45 minutes.

6

She doesn't forget cardio.

Kate tends to do a cardio interval at the end of her workouts. That can mean using a rubber Inertia Wave, or doing one-leg pushes on a curved SkillMill treadmill. She wraps up her workouts with a good stretch.

She does yoga on the go.

Kate sometimes goes out of town for filming, and she takes her workouts along with her. “You’ll find yourself in Bulgaria, and you don’t know anyone, and they’ll say, ‘Well, we have a trainer who’s available, and he’s literally called The Punisher,’” Kate told Women's Health. So, she packs yoga workouts recorded by Jessica James and Mandy Ingber. “I haven’t been injured while doing an action movie, and I think it’s partially from practicing yoga," she said.

8

She's on the mini trampoline train.

Kate told WH that she's "into trampolining"—calling it "the greatest thing." Kate likes to do LEKFit classes, which are streamed online. With LEKFit’s app, Kate can put her laptop on her counter and bounce on a trampoline in her kitchen. “It makes you feel kind of jolly!” she said.

9

She crushes boxing workouts.

Kate shared an Instagram video in 2019 of herself punching a dummy in the face after doing an abs roll-up and roll-down. “Yippee ki yay, motherf*cker,” she hilariously captioned the post.

She's diligent AF.

Siskind told WH that Kate is incredibly dedicated to her fitness. “She’s a strong person. I see her six days a week, and she rarely misses a workout," he said. "If she does, there’s a good reason. Because otherwise, she’s crushing it.”

11

She flips tires.

Kate shared a super impressive video on Instagram in 2019 of herself flipping a tire at the gym. In the video, Kate flips a tire that's 150 pounds (not a typo), making it look like nothing. “Avail for farm work," she joked in the caption.

12

She doesn't neglect her core.

Celebrity trainer Gunnar Peterson, who also works with Kate, told WH that the actress does fast-paced, total-body exercises with an emphasis on her core. And yeah, it shows.A few core moves she likes? Supermans, pushups with shoulder taps, and bicycle crunches.

She's got perfect squat form.

Kate shared a hilarious video on Instagram of herself doing squats at the gym over an actual toilet. “What sets @gunnarfitness apart from other trainers is not just the fact he’ll suddenly install a loo under the squat rack to entertain himself but it is a portion of it,” she wrote in the caption.

14

She's not afraid to try new workouts.

Kate shared on Instagram in 2018 that she spent her birthday doing goat yoga. "We all prayed that the goat’s blessings would happen on [ex] Michael’s mat and they did," she wrote in the caption of photos, which show her doing all kinds of yoga moves while goats hung around.

15

She's a really, really hard worker.

Celebrity trainer Gunnar Peterson told Us Weekly that Kate always shows up to work hard. Kate is "definitely up there among my hardest workers. I mean every single day is push, push, push," he said.
