A former US National Women's Soccer League player, Stefany Ferrer Van Ginkel, was caught on video allegedly making a Nazi salute at pro-Israel demonstrators in Los Angeles.

The incident took place at a rally in Beverly Hills, although the context leading up to the video is unclear.

She was in the passenger seat of a vehicle driven by another professional soccer player, Samim Haydari. Haydari was last associated with United City FC in 2022.

Ferrer Van Ginkel, a 25-year-old Brazilian, previously played for Angel City Football Club, who distanced themselves from her actions in a statement released on social media.

"Stefany Ferrer Van Ginkel does not play for Angel City Football Club, nor has she been affiliated with the club since November 2022, and we condemn her recent actions and statements," the statement read.

Both players later issued a video apology on social media, after the incident went viral.

"I know we have approached the situation with hate and made it worse with our actions," Haydari said in the clip, in which Van Ginkel didn't speak.

"We acted childish. All we can do is become better and learn a lesson from this. We cannot change the past."

Van Ginkel is currently without a club. She had a one-season stint with Angel City and previously played for Spanish club Espanyol and Mexican top-flight side Tigres.
