Zahaad Paval from Kerala has reportedly become India’s first transman to get pregnant. He and his partner Ziya Paval, who is a transwoman, are expecting their first baby by March
Ziya, who is a classical dancer, announced the pregnancy via Instagram along with Zahaad’s image. The post received massive traction on social media and also led to a discussion on the change in gender-roles in the world
Ziya wrote in her Instagram post, “We are about to realise my dream of becoming a mother and his dream of becoming a father. An eight-month-old foetus is now in (Zahhad’s) belly, from what we came to know, this is the first trans man’s pregnancy in India.”
Zahaad, an accountant, was reportedly undergoing hormonal therapies for completing his transition from being a woman to a man. Though, he has stalled them for now until he delivers the child
Ziya penned down Zahaad’s journey of pregnancy, as she wrote, "Though I was not a woman by birth or by my body, I had the feminine dream inside me to hear a baby calling me 'mother'... It has been three years since we are together. Like my dream of becoming a mother, he (Zahad) has a dream of becoming a father and today a life of eight months is moving in his belly with his full consent.”
Ziya shared her opinion about the situation of transgenders in India as she said, “Most transgender couples are boycotted by the society as well as their respective families, we wanted a baby so that there is a person even after our days in this world are over.”

As per reports, the transgender couple was also trying to adopt a kid, but faced legal challenges
Zahaad Paval is India’s first-ever confirmed ‘pregnant man’. Worldwide, several transgender men often share their stories of getting pregnant. In 2008, Thomas Beatie became the world's first ‘pregnant man’ to give birth to a baby girl
