Leaf Shapes
Leaf shapes are a very distinct way of identifying each plant. Additionally, in the tropical houseplant market, unique leaf shapes are a part of what makes a plant valuable. Below will be a description of the common leaf shapes and a couple of my favorite more eccentric Philodendron leaves.
Basic Shapes of Leaves
Some very common shapes from this diagram would include cordate, hastate, linear, and elliptic. These shapes make up the basic description of plant leaves and have a very important role in horticulture studies. They also make for some pretty unique plants, for example, some of these plant leaves can have these shapes but have parts “cut” out of them to give a different look entirely.
Philodendron Brasil
The Philodendron Brasil is the perfect plant to show cordate leaf shape. It is a little heart shape with just the cutest little pointed tip at the end. For most house plant owners this is a staple plant that just fits perfectly in almost every plant collection.
Philodendron Florida Beauty
Leaves can even look differently per species, which is the most baffling part to me. Philodendron has some of my favorite leaves, for example, the Philodendron Florida Beauty. These are the cordate shaped leaves, or heart shaped, but they show extreme lobes and extended tips. An absolutely stunning show of how different Philodendron can be.
Philodendron Tortum
The Philodendron Tortum does not even resemble the stereotypical Philo leaf. This leaf has huge spidery leaf, that come out looking like a corkscrew. A super cool plant that has quickly become a must have for avid houseplant collectors.
