Abstract

The invention relates to a collimator (1) comprising a housing (2) of substantially tubular shape designed to accommodate a source (S) emitting ionizing radiation and an exit window (3) communicating with the radiation source (S) for focusing the emitted radiation onto a target. The invention is such that the wall of the collimator (1) around the substantially tubular housing (2) has a variable thickness defining a thickness of said collimator (1) to be penetrated by all the rays emitted from the radiation source (S) placed in said housing (2), this thickness being sufficient but optimized, depending on the source and the constituent material(s) of the collimator, so as to ensure that sufficient and substantially constant attenuation of said rays irrespective of their radiation direction, with the exception of those focused by the window (3) of the collimator (1).
