UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
EDMUND O. BAILEY, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
TOY PIANO.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 243,096, dated June 21, 1881.
Application filed January 11, 1881.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EDMUND G. BAILEY, of Chicago, county of Cook, and State of Illinois, have invented a new and novel Improvement 5 to the Toy Piano.
The invention relates to a toy for the amusement of children by the extension of the keys to a piano, in connection with springs inserted, (into a floor,) for placing moving figures or characters, of which thefollowing is a specification.
Heretofore toy-piano music has not been constructed so as to give novelty euoug I.
The object of my invention is to call the at- I tention by the sight of the moving figures or characters, and upon the movement of the keys .the movement of the figures or characters become pleasant to the eye; audit finally consists in the particular construction and arrangement of the mechanism.
In the accompanying drawings, in which similar letters-of reference indicate like parts, Figure 1 represents a perspective view. Fig. 2 represents a vertical longitudinal section.
Fig. 3 is a view of the floor, in which is inserted the springs for the figures or characters to be placed upon. Fig. 4 represents the spring and character attached.
(Model.)
In the slotted floor A are inserted the springs, secured to the floor, and suitably adjusted so when there is a movement of the extended keys B the pins D will act upon and set in motion springs C, while the hammers E act upon the m usic-producin g material F.
Formerly the music-producing material F, the hammers E, and the keys B,excepting the extension X X, have been in use.
The operation of the device is as follows: hen the keys B are played upon the hammers E strike the sound-producing material F. At the same time the pins D on the extended keys B strike the springs 0, setting them in motion, with the figures or characters attached.
What I claim is The combination of a toy piano with moving figures actuated by the extension of the keys B, the pins D, the slotted tloor A, and the springs O, substantially as and for the purpose described.
EDMUND O. BAILEY.
