2 Claims. (Cl. 30`-72) This invention relates to new and useful improvements in a four sided safety razor and blade.
The invention has for an object the construction of an article as mentioned which is characterized by a four sided head piece with a central threaded-stud and several spaced pegs, a four sided razor beneath said head piece, a four sided guard beneath the razor, and a handle threadedly engaging said stud to hold the head piece, blade and guard together.
More particularly, the invention has specific reference to a novel arrangement of the pegs and complementary receiving openings in the razor blade.
Still further the invention contemplates arranging the pegs in a straight line with the central threaded stud, and arranging the openings in the razor in the form of a cross so that the razor may be engaged on said stud and pegs in several adjusted positions.
Still further the invention'proposes a construction whereby each of the edges of the four sided blade is supported upon the head piece and guard in a reinforced condition.
Furthermore, the invention has for an object the association with the head-piece of a means for holding any one of the sides in reinforced position to enhance the efficiency of the blade during shaving.
Another object of the invention is the construction of a device as described which is simple and durable and which may be manufactured and sold at a reasonable cost.
For further comprehension of the invention, and of the objectsand advantages thereof, reference will be had to the following description and accompanying drawing and to the appended claims in which the Various novel features of the 'invention are more particularly set forth.

The head piecel Ill and the guard I 5 are 20 formed in curved quadrants which are adapted to curve the blade into four sections radiating from the center thereof so that each of theedges In Fig. 2 it should be noted that both the guard and the head piece are curved. This represents the curvature of two of the quadrants diametrically opposite each other. From Fig. 1, the quadrants may be noticed between the diagonally crossed lines indicated by the reference numerals 20. The blade I3 has cutout corners I3'L so that each of the edges thereof are free and may ex independently. The opening I4 is substantially in the form of two ldiagonally crossed arms I IIa and I4". s At the junction of these arms there is suflicient space for the threaded stud II to pass. The pegs I2 may pass through either of -the ends of the arms I4a and I4b. This permits the blade I3 to be Aset into position upon the razor in several different ways. It may be set with one face adjacent the head piece or the other face adjacent the head piece.
In addition, it may be turned to several different positions.
In Figs. 4-7 inclusive a modified form of the 45 article is disclosed which distinguishes from the prior form in several details. More particularly,l
an opening I 4' consisting of branches I 4aa and I4bb parallel to the sides of the razor. The diagonals of the blade are formed with narrow slots 22 so as to reduce the amount of metal at these 55 areas to render the blade more exible. This is of value in that it then may be readily placed into the position controlled by the curvatures of the head piece and the guard.
In other respects this form of the invention is identical to the previous form and similar parts may be recognized by the same reference numerals.
In Figs. 8 and 9 a still further modied form of the invention is disclosed in which provision is made for forcing one or more of the edges of the razor ends into curved shape to stiffen the razor as desired. More particularly, in this form there is a fiat head piece i0 which has the stud Il projecting from its center. This ilat' head piece cooperates with the curved guard l5. The guard l5 is curved in quadrants as indicated by the oblique lines 20 in Fig. 9. 'Ihe blade I2, when placed in the razor, normally would have all of its edges free since the parts may only be clamped tight at, the center. Then, any one of the four sides of the razor may be placed into operative condition by screwing down the threaded elements 25 threadedly engaged through the Y head piece. These threaded elements are arranged in pairs for each of the quadrants. As shown in Fig. 8, the left hand side of the razor blade is forced into the curved position and is thus ready for use. 4 The other sides of the razor blade are free. The purpose of the arrangement is to only ilex that edge of the blade which is to be used so as to stiffen it and make it perform emciently, while the other edges are free to prevent undue stresses being placed upon the blade which will interfere with the proper flexing of the edge which is used. It should be understood that if the blade is tightly held on the four sides it will not be as flexible if it is held tightly upon one side.
While I have illustrated and described the preferred embodiment of my invention, it is to be understood that I do not limit myself to the precise construction herein disclosed and the right is reserved to all changes and modifications coming within the scope of the invention as defined in the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by United States Letters Patent isz- 1. A four sided safety razor and blade, comprising a four sided head piece with a central threaded stud and several pegs, a four sided razor blade .beneath said head piece and having openings through which said stud or pegs pass, a four sided guard beneath said razor blade and having openings into which said stud and pegs pass, and a handle threadedly engaging said stud and holding said head piece, blade and guard together, said head piece being fiat, said guard being convexed, and m'eans on the head piece and engageable against the sides of the blade selec- 20 tively to conform any of the sides of the blade to the shape of the guard.

A four sided safety razor and blade, comprisingA a four sided head piece with a central threaded stud and several pegs, a four sided razor blade beneath said head piece and having openings through which said stud or pegs pass, a four sided guard beneath said razor blade and having openings into which said stud and pegs pass, and a handle threadedly engaging said stud and holding said head piece, blade and guard together, said head piece being flat, said guard' being convexed, and means on the head piece and engageable against the sides of the blade selectively to conform any of the sides of the blade to the shape of the guard. comprising elements threadedly engaging through said head piece and engaging the top portion of said blade for shaping the said blade.
