GOGGLE VENT ILA'IOR Filed March 18, 1932 Snventor (lttornepo Patented Mar. 14, 1933 UNITED STATES ."PATE-NFT :oP i-cE f HARRY F. SHINDEL, 0 READING, PENNSYLVANIA, ASSIGNOB. 'ro WILLSON P'Ro'nUcTs,
INc., or READING, PENNSYLVANIA, A CORPORATION or PENNSYLVANIA GOGGLE VENTILATOR Application filed March 18, 1932. Serial No. 599,698.
My invention relates particularly to gogles having eye-cups forming air chambers for the eyes; and it consists in improved light-excluding ventilating means for such cups as fully described in connection with the accompanying drawing and specifically defined in the subjoined claims.
Fig. 1 is a side view of a goggle eye-cup having my invention applied thereto.
Fig. 2 is a. cross sectional View on the line 2 2 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a separate view of one of the pair of ventilating port discs shown in applied positions in Figs. 1 and 2.
Fig. 4 is a separate view of the disc holding and applying means as employed in Figs. 1 and 2. V
Fig. 5 indicates a modified disc-securing means.
The main purpose of my present invention is to provide an improved and simplified construction of port device of the general type set forth in my prior Patent No. 1,670,638 of May 22, 1928; the novelty consisting primarily in the employment of two port discs of identical construction adapted to cooperate in providing baffled communication with the eye cup chamber by reverse arrangement thereof in the wall opening; and secondarily in particular means for satisfactorily combining the discs and securing them in the wall opening.
The drawing indicates an ordinary eye cup wall A havinga ventilating opening a in the rearwardly extending side portion thereof, as heretofore used.
Ba-filed ports for the wall opening a are provided, as shown, by two identically formed port discs 10, 10, preferably made of suitable sheet material shaped in a. die adapted to form a port opening 11 to one side of the center of the disc, a dished portion 12 at the other side having a battle wall 13, and a clamping-rim portion 14:. These identical discs being adapted, when arranged in reverse positions in the wall opening a as clearly shown in Fig. 2, to provide a tortuous ventilating passage-way as indicated by arrowlines, with each of the separated port openings 11, 11 covered by a light-excluding dished portion 12 of the other disc, and with these overhanging dished portions projecting outwardly and inwardly respectively.
In connection with these reversely' arranged discs 10, 10., I preferably employ a disc casing 20 as separately shown in Fig. 4; this being adapted to fixedly unite the reversely arranged discs in a combined device conveniently securable in the wall opening a as shown in Fig. 2. The circular off-set 21- of this casing provides aseat for the clamping rims 141, 14 of the two reversely arranged discs 10, 10, and the latter are clamped to said seat by a turning-over thereupon of the casing rim 22; the extending bodyportion of the sleeve, as shown, being insertable in the wall opening a and securable therein by turning-over of its inner rim 23; all as clearly indicated in Fig. 2.
This specific construction may be modi- 'm fied within the scope of the invention as defined in the claims, Fig. 5 indicating a simplified disc-securing means in which the preferred casing therefor is dispensed with. i
What I claim is:
1. A goggle eye-cup having a ventilator opening in the wall thereof, and a pair of eccentrically dished essentially identical port discs secured in said opening in reverse positions to provide cooperating bafiled ports.
2. A goggle eye-cup having a ventilator opening in the wall thereof, a pair of reversely arranged essentially identical port discs each having an eccentrically dished portion forming a baffle adjacent its port opening, and means for securing said discs in the wall opening to provide bafiled communication through the separated ports.
3. A goggle eye-cup having a ventilator opening in the wall thereof, a pair of reversely arranged essentially identical portdiscs each formed With an eccentric port opening and a dished bafiie portion, and means for holding said discs and jointly securing the same in said Wall opening.
4. In a goggle eye-cup having a ventilator opening in the Wall thereof; a ventilator device for said opening comprising a pair of port-discs each formed with a clamping rim and an eccentric dished portion, and a clamping casing therefor securable in said opening; said discs being reversely positioned in said casing to provide bafiied port Ways.
In testimony whereof, I affix my signature,
HARRY F SHINDEL.
