Be it known that I, ANNA B. AFER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Olney, in the county of Richland and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Nursery Bath Cabinets, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to furniture, andthe primary object of the invention is to provi-de an improved cabinet for taking care of the requisites of an infant or baby, which will facilitate and simplify the work` of the mother or nurse having charge of the baby.

Another object of the invention is to provide a compound article of furniture for a baby or infant embodying a wardrobe or set of drawings, a bath tub,- and a commode, the said devices being combined in such a. manner as to form a compa/ct structure, which will present a neat and attractive appearance, thus pleasing the aesthetic taste of the market.l

Another object of the invention, is to provide, in a piece of-infants furniture, a bath tub, whichwhen not in use, will be completely hidden from view, so as not to suggest to visitors the use thereof, and which is of a convenient height, so as to eliminate the necessity of the mother or nurse leaning over the tub during the bathing of the baby, the cover for the tub forming a table or supf port, for articles of apparel or the baby,

A urther objectl of the invention is to provide a novel means for associatino the commode with the cabinet, the commode being partially collapsible, so as to facilitate the folding thereof into the cabinet when not in use, the receptacle for the `commode forming a means for catching the drip from the tub or for draining the tub.

A still further' object of the invention is to provide a cabinet having a bath tub arranged in the upper end thereof, a chest of drawers below the tub and'at one side of the cabinet, a folding .commode arranged on the opposite side of the cabinet, and doors for hiding the commode or nursery chair and chest of drawers from view, the upper portion of the cabinet in front of the tub being constructed s`o as to present the appearance of a drawer, the handles of which are adapted to be extended to form towel racks.

Referring to the. drawings in detail, wherein similar reference characters designate corresponding -parts throughout the several views, the letter A indicates the housin casing or frame for the cabinet, B the bat tub -positioned in the upper portion thereof, C, the set of drawers, and D, the folding commode or nursery chair.

The casing, frame or housing Av of the cabinet including the vertically disposed end walls 10, therear wall 11, and the bottom wall 12, the lower corners of the bottom of the housing or frame supporting depending relatively short legs 13, which are provided with suitable casters 14. The legs 13 form means for spacing the bottom wall 12 from the floor, thereby permitting the floor to be readily cleaned under the cabinet, and thus keepin the cabinet ina sanitary condition. The upper part of the front portion of the housing A directly above the portion, which receives the set of drawers Cv and the folding commode or nursery chair D and, above the doors 15 and 16 is provided with a longitudinally extending strip or plate 18 which is provided with an ornamental front 19, so as to present the appearance of a drawer, and when the doors 15 and 16 are in their closed position, the front plate 18 extends flush therewith. In order to more fully carry out the appearance of a drawer for the plate 18, the opposite ends of the same are provided with false handles or pulls 21. A These false handles or pulls 21 include rods 22, which are slidably carried by the plate 18, and are adapted to be pulled outwardly, so as to form towel supports when the tub is 1n use. The inner'ends of the rods 22v are provided with fianges or knobs 23, so as to limit the outward sliding movement thereof.

The tub B may be made of any preferred material, such as sheet metal suitably enamelled, or |porcelain or the like, and of a convenient size, for an infant or baby. The tub B includes a body 25 ofthe usual configuration and a peripheral outwardly extending flange 26, which is adapted to rest upon the ledge 27 supported by the moulding 28, which is secured to the side walls 10, the rear wall 11, and the front plate 18. lThe ledge 27 may be, if so desired, in the nature of a partition provided with a suitable aperture for the reception of the tub. The ledge 27 is provided adjacent its terminals with filler blocks 29, and the flange 26 is provided with an upwardly and outwardly extending flange 30 for engaging the blocks.

The lower end of the body 25 of the tub D at one side of the chest of drawers C is provided with a suitable outlet 31, in which is placed a control valve 32, and it can be seen that the water can be readily drained from out of the tub, through the medium of the drain pipe 31 and the valve 32.

In order to give a neat appearance to the casing A of the cabinet, suitable end plates or strips 33 are provided at the upper ends of the casing and these strips extend transversely across the upper end of the casing from the rear wall to the front plate 18, and are secured to the filler blocks 29. As shown these strips or plates 33 terminate at the ends of the tub B, and the upper end of the tub is adapted to be normally closed and hidden from view, by means of a hinged leaf or cover 35. This cover or leaf 35 when in its closed position extends f'lush with the strips33, and the cover or leaf 35 forms a top vwall for the casing. The leaf 35 is ,hingedly connected at one transverse edge to the inner edge of one of the strips 33, as at 36, and this leaf is adapted to be swung over this strip, so as to expose the tub to view. The hinged leaf or cover 35, when in this osition forms a table or support for the baby or for articles of the babys apparel during the washing of the baby.

The chest of drawers C is arranged below the tub D, and at one side of the cabinet, which as shown in the drawings, is the left hand side, andthis chest of drawers is arranged in a compartment defined by a central vertically disposed partition plate 37, and a horizontally disposed partition plate 38, which'may be suitably braced by a section of moldingV 39. Suitable partition plates 39 are arranged within the compartment defined by the vertically disposed partition 37 and the horizontall disposed partition 38, and these plates de ne spaces for the recep-A tion of drawers 40. These drawers 40 may be of various sizes and the uppermost drawer is adapted to be formed relatively small for the reception of the toilet articles necessary for the babys toilet.

. The folding commode or nursing chair D i is adapted to be arranged within the housing A below the tub B, and on one side of the chest of drawers C. This commode or nursery chair D includes the fiat plate 41, which forms a seat portion, and the rear edge of the plate 41 is provided with outwardly extending ears 42, which are slidably mounted between guide strips 43, which define a track way. Suitable vertically disposed strips 44 are arranged at the front portion of the housing, and these strips are adapted to be engaged by the ears 42, so as to limit the outward sliding movement of the seat or plate 41 in the cabinet. The lower guides bottom wall 12 of thehousing A, and the distance between the seat or plate 41 and the bottom wall 12 forms the means for receiving the folding front wall or support 45, which is suitably carved or shaped to provide supporting legs 46. The front wall 45 is arranged inwardly from the forward edge of the plate or seat 41, and is connected to the lower surface of the seat or plate` 41 by means of suitable hinges 47. A suitable back 47 and arms 48 may be provided for the commode or nursery chair. I

When the chair is not in use, the front wall 45 is swung inwardly into engagement with the lower surface of the seat.41 and the chair is then pushed inwardly into the cabinet and the forward edge thereof lies within the plane of the plate 18.

When the commode or nursery chair is in use, a receptacle 50 is provided for the same, and this receptacle is adapted to be placed beneath the seat 4l. When the commode or chair is not in use, and is in its folded position, the receptacle 50 is placed on the upper surface of the seat or plate 41, which positions the same below the drain 31, and it can be seen that any drip from the tub will falldirectly into the receptacle 50. The receptacle 50 may also be used, if so desired, for draining the tub.

The door 15 may be provided with a suitable hanger, hamper, or rack 5l as shown, for supporting soiled clothes, or the like.

When the chair is in a collapsed or folded position within the cabinet, the doors and 16 are adapted to be arranged in their closed position, which will completely hide the chair and the sets of drawers from view, and these drawers will extend flush with the outer surface of the front plate 18.

The outer surface of the doors 15 and 16 may be provided with suitable hand pulls 52.

lrom the foregoing description, it can be seen that a novel and simple cabinet has been provided, for taking care of the requisitesof a baby, which will considerably facilitate the labor incident to the care and welfare of a baby, the cabinet' presenting an extremely neat and pleasing appearance to the eye.

Changes in details may be made without departing from the spirit or scope of this invention; but,

I claim:

1. In a cabinet, the combination, with a casing including a rear wall, end walls, and

a bottom wall a horizontally disposed transversely extending partition arranged in the casing terminating short of the upper end thereof, a vertically disposed partition arranged transversely in the casing forming a pair of compartments, a set of drawersar-y ranged in one of the compartments, a front strip secured to the end walls terminating flush with the rear wall, a commodeslidably mounted in the casing on the opposite side of the vertical partition from said drawers, hinged doors secured to the end walls arranged to hide said set of drawers and said commode, a support arranged in the upper end of said casing above said sets of drawers, a tub secured to said support, end strips secured to the upper edge of the casing, and a hinged leaf arranged intermediate the strips.

2. In a cabinet, the combination with la casing including a rear Wall, side walls, and a bottom wall, a horizontally disposed partition carried by the side and end walls arranged below the upper edges of said walls, a tub carried by said partition and arranged to extend below the same, a commode vslidably mounted in said casing arranged below the tub, an outlet for the tub, a removable receptacle for the commode adapted to'be normally positioned below said outlet of the tub, and a hinged cover for the casing arranged to normally lie above the partition and over said tub.
