Description

H. F. SHINDEL.
VENTILATED GOGGLES.
APPLICATION FILED APR. I0. 1919.
1,322,88Q. Patented Nov. 25, 1919.
HARRY F. SHINDEL, OF READING, PENNSYLVANIA, ASSIGNOR '10 '1. A. WILLSON & 00., IN (1., OF READING, PENNSYLVANIA, A CORPORATION OF PENNSYLVANIA.
VENTILATED GOGGLES.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed April 10, 1919. Serial No. 289,121. 1
I To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HARRY F. SHINDEL, a citizen of the United States, residin at Reading, in the county of Berks and tate of Pennsylvania, have invented certaln new and useful Improvements in Ventilated Goggles, of which thefollowing is a specificatlon.
My invention relates to goggles in whlch ventilatin openings are employed in connection with meansfor baffling the admission of light and foreign matter therethrough; my object is to provide a very simple, neat and economical construction for such purpose. The invention is fully described in connection with the accompanying drawing and is specifically pointed out in the subjoined claim.
Figure 1 is an end elevation of a goggle cup showing two ventilating o enings one of which has my improved ba e plate applied thereto.
- Fig. 2 is a cross-sectional view on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1. 1
Fig. 3 shows my completely formed bafiie plate separately, and Fig. 4 shows the sheet material blank from which the same is formed.
The drawing illustrates a folded and clamped sheet-material oggle cup a such as is shown in my prior l atent No. 1,296,707 issued Mar. 11, 1919, excepting as to my present improvement applied thereto. Each of the two ventilating openings 12 b which are shown in the illustrated cup, is of circular form, and has a plurality of smaller apertures a 0 near its marginal edge; said opening and apertures being punched in the wall-forming blank. The baffle device provided for so covering this ventilating opening I) as to exclude objectionable admission of light and foreign matter to the eye cup, is designed to effect these essential purposes and at the same time produce a strikingly neat appearance, with the greatest possible economy and permanence in construction; and to these ends it is made from a simple sheet-material punching or blank, such as is shown in Fig. 4, and which is readily formed into the complete device shown in Fig. 3 by means of suitable dies; said device comprising merely a main cover-plate portlon e, tures of the cup Wall, and having a roundlngly-turned circular edge f arranged to eX- tend toward the cup wall and overlap the edge of the ventilating opening; and a plurality of perpendicularly. turned clamping ears g g,correspondingin number and spac mg with the apertures c c in the cup wall, and formed with off-sets h k arranged to seat against said wall when the clamping ears are engaged in said apertures, so as to fixedly space the cover plate therefrom when the device is ri idly secured to the cup wall by clenching the. extending clamping ears as indicated. 1
My invention as set forth provides a specifically novel construction serving perfectly the recognized requirements as to ventilating effect with needed protection, and also as to desired neatness of appearance and avoidance of weightiness and bulk, with a maximum of economy and permanence in construction.
What I claim.is
In combination with a goggle eye-cup having its wall provided with a ventilating opening and a plurality of apertures adjacent said opening; a sheet-material baflle plate comprising a cover portion having a turned edge overlapping the-edge of said "opening, and spaced clamping ears extending from said turned edge through said apertures and formed with off-sets seating Patented Nov. 25, 1919.
curved to conform with the curvaagainst said wall to space said cover portion therefrom. I
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature.
HARRY F. SHINDEL.
