Description
P. s. MEDAYRT.
PLAYGROUND SLIDE.

PATENT errant.
PHILIP S. MEDART, OF ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI.
PLAYGROUND-SLIDE.
Application filed June 10, 1915.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that l, PHILIP S. MEDART, a citizen of the United States of America, and a resident of the city of St. Louis, State of- Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Playground-Slides, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to downwardly inclined slides for playgrounds, of the spiral type, and has for its object to provide a durable and efiicient structural formation and association of parts whereby the spi-v rally formed slide is supported in a strong and rigid manner with an avoidance of exterior supports to interfere with the safety and effectiveness of other adjacent playground apparatus, all as will hereinafter more fully appear.
In the accompanying drawings: Figure 1, is an elevation illustrating the general arrangement of parts in the present apparatus. Fig. 2, is an elevation of the same in a plane at right angles to that of Fig. 1.
Similar reference numerals indicate like parts in both views.
Referring to the drawings, 1 designates a series of Vertical posts, preferably of metal tubing disposed in spaced relation and strongly anchored at their lower ends in the ground by means of concrete bases 2, or other usual means.
3 designates a horizontal rider bar or rail, preferably of metal tubing, secured to the upper ends of the posts 1 by pipe couplings or unions 4: of any ordinary and suitable type. The bar or rail 3, as so arranged, constitutes the usual support for the upper ends of the series of exercising or amusement appliances usually employed in city playgrounds. And in the present improvement said rider bar or rail 3 and one of its supporting posts 1 are utilized as the sole means of support for an individual amusement slide, and to such end said slide will comprise a structural formation and combmation of parts as follows:5 designates a spirally formed slide or runway of an open top trough form, disposed concentrically around a vertical post 1 of the above described supporting structure and substantially connected thereto by the series of 1ntermediate braces or brackets 6, arranged radially and spirally as shown. The upper Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 25, 1916.
Serial No. 33,325.
end of the spirally formed slide or runway 5 is secured to an adjacent portion of the horizontal rider bar or rail 3, while the lower end of the slide or runway is preferably free from any connection and disposed a short distance above the ground, so that the lower extremities of a person using the apparatus will strike the ground with an angling and easy impact.
7 designates a ladder or stairway, the lower end of which rests upon the ground, and its upper end is attached to the horizontal rider bar or rail 3 in adjacent relation to the upper end of the spirally formed slide or runway 5, to afford convenient access to the upper end of said slide in its use for exercising or amusement purposes.
Having thus fully described my said invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
l. A playground slide, comprising an individual central post arranged in a fixed vertical position, a rider bar secured to said post and forming a lateral top extension thereof, a runway of a spiral trough form surrounding said post and supported wholly thereon, and a stairway disposed at the side of said runway with its upper end attached to and supported by the rider bar aforesaid.
2. A playground slide, comprising an individual central post arranged in a fixed vertical position, a rider bar secured to said post and forming a lateral top extension thereof, a runway of a spiral trough form surrounding said post, a series of lateral supporting braces intermediate of the central post and the runway, and a stairway disposed at the side of said runway with its upper end attached to and supported by the rider bar aforesaid.
3. A playground slide, comprising a plurality of individual central posts having fixed vertical positions, a single horizontal rider bar connecting the upper ends of said posts together, individual runways of a spiral trough form surrounding the individual central posts aforesaid and supported wholly thereon, and individual stairways disposed at the sides of the runways with the upper ends of said stairways attached to and supported by the rider bar aforesaid.
4:. In a playground slide, comprising a plurality of individual central posts having fixed vertical positions, a single horizontal rider bar connecting the upper ends of said posts together, individual runways of a spiral trough form surrounding the individual central posts aforesaid, a series of lateral supporting braces intermediate of each central post and its runway, and individual aforesaid.
Signed at St. Louis Missouri, this 8th day of June, 1915.
PHILIP S. MEDART.
