Description

F. GOUGET.
UNDER WATER OPERATED MUSICAL APPARATUS. APPLICATION FILED APR. 19. 1915.

FELIX GOUGET, or ELKHART, INDIANA.
. UNDER-WATER-OPERATED MUSICAL APPARATUS.
specification of Letters Patent. Paifggnt gd D 141 1915;
Application filed a rnie, 1915. Serial No. 22,463,
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, FELIX Gou'eii'r, a citi zen of France, residing in Elkhart, county of Elkhart, Indiana, have invented. certain new and useful Improvements in Under- VVater-Operated Musical Apparatus, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention relates in general to theater appliances, but particularly to an under-water operated musical apparatus, and has for its primary object to produce an apparatus of this character for amusing an audience which may congregate in a place of amusement. Another object of the invention is to construct the apparatus in such a manner as to bewilder and amaze an audience by the playing of a wind musical instrument by a person while under water.
A still further object of the invention is to so support the instrument to be operated that the mouthpiece thereof will be conveniently presented to the player regardless of the vertical position of the platform which lowers and raises him into and out of the water containing tank.
With these and minor objects in view, the invention may be more readily understood upon reference to the illustrative embodiment shown in the accompanying drawing and to certain features of construction to be hereinafter more specifically described and pointed out in the subjoined claims.
In said drawing Figure 1 is a side elevation of the apparatus showing the platform in position to be occupied by a person preparatory to being lowered into the water container. Fig. 2 is a vertical section of the apparatus showing the positions the parts assume during a performance. Fig. 3 is a top plan View of the apparatus.
Referring to the drawings in detail, 1 represents a water container, which for the purpose of rendering it transparent, may be constructed with its sides of glass, having corner strips 2 of metal, or other suitable material, and a base 3 in which the glass sides are securely embedded to prevent leakage. The container may also be provided with reinforcing strips l around its top in order that the sides may be rigidly held against displacement or breakage.
Slidably mounted in the container 1 1s a platform 5 for raising and lowering a person into and out of the container. This platform has mounted thereon a yoke 6 which, together with the platform is adapt.- ed to be guided in its travel in the container by a guideway 7. a f I i 8 represents a'block and tackle arrangement having a cable 9 for ccntrollingt'he raising and lowering of the platform. This block and tackle is attachedto a suitable beam 10, or to one of the ordinary stage 1110-; pliances of the theater, and the top of the yoke 6. y i y T Mounted on the yoke 6 is a cross piece 11, which is adapted to support the windmusical instrument 12 in position to be operated by the person occupying the platform]. 5. This support is so located on theyoke that the mouth-piece 13 of the instrument is presented to the operator in a convenient posi tion. In order that the instrument may have a desired amount of free move1nent, it is supported on the cross piece 11 b'ya pivotal bearing lit and connected to the, tQp ogf the yoke by a flexible connection'15.
From the foregoing description it will be readily seen that a person may occupy the platform 5 while it is in a position as shown in Fig. 1, when he may be lowered into the water in the container 1 by means of,, .the block and tackle arrangement 8, where he may perform his act of playing the instrument while under the water, and thenbe raised out of the water when he has 0 pleted his performance.
Claims:
1. An apparatus of the class described comprising a well, means for raising and lowering a person into and out of the well, said means having a support for a Wind musical instrument adapted to hold the instrument in position to be operated by the person when occupying the raising and lowering means.
2. An apparatus of the class described comprising a water container having a trans parent side wall, means for raising and lowering a person into and out of the water tank, said means having a support for a wind musical instrument adapted to hold the instrument in position to be operated by the person when occupying the raising and lowering means.
3. An apparatus of the class described comprising a water container having atra-nsparent side, a platform slidably mounted in said container for lowering and raising a person into and out of the container, said platform having a support for a wind musical instrument adapted to hold the instrument in position to be operated by the person when occupying the platform.
4. An apparatus of the class described, comprising a water container having a transparent side, a platform slidably mounted in said container for raising and lowering a person into and out of the container, a yoke mounted on said platform for supporting a wind musical instrument in position to be operated by the person when occupying the platform.
7 5. An apparatus of the class described, comprising a Water container having transparent sides, a platform slidably mounted in said containerfor raising and lowering a person into and out of the container, a yoke mounted on said platform, means attached to said yoke for controlling the raising and lowering of the platform, and a cross piece on said yoke for supporting a wind musical instrument in position to be operated by the person when occupying the platform.
6. An apparatus of the class described, comprising a Water container having transparent sides, a platform slidably mounted in said container for raising and lowering a person into and out of the container, a yoke mounted on said platform, means attached to said yoke for controlling the raising and lowering of the platform, a cross piece on said yoke for supporting a wind musical instrument in position to be operated by the person when occupying the platform, and a flexible connection between said musical instrument and said yoke.
7. An apparatus of the class described, comprising a water container having transparent sides, a platform slidably mounted in said container for raising and lowering a person into and out of the container, a guideway in said container, a yoke mounted on said platform, said yoke and said platform adapted to travel in said guideway when the platform is raised and lowered, a block and tackle arrangement controlling the raising and lowering of the platform, a cross-piece on said yoke for pivotally supporting a wind musical instrument in position to be operated by the person when occupying the platform, and a flexible connection between said musical instrument and said yoke.
