EXERCISING APPARATUS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed December 2, 1913. Serial No. 804,243.
Patented Nov. 3, 1914.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, OMER E. BOONE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Sac City, in the county of Sac and State of Iowa, have invented new and useful Improvements in Exercising Apparatus, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in exercising apparatus, and one of its objects is the provision of a combined parallel and horizontal bar apparatus which shall be rimarily adapted for home use.
.5 further object of the invention is the provision of an apparatus of the above stated character which shall be simple, durable, and eflicient, and which may be manufactured and sold at a comparatively low cost.
With the above and other objects in view, the invention consists in the construction, combination, and arrangement of parts hereinafter fully described and claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, wherein the figure is a perspective view of an exercising apparatus constructed in accordance with my invention.
Referring to the drawing by reference characters, 1 designates a substantially elliptical frame which presents a pair of spaced paralleled side bars 2, and curved ends 3. The side bars 2are held in relatively spaced relation by the ends 3, and they are connected to the ends by means of couplings 4. The couplings 4 are permanently connected to the ends 3, and the side bars 2 have a detachable engagement with the couplings so as to permit the side bars to be replaced when broken or otherwise rendered unfit for further use. The side bars 2 have preferably a screw threaded connection withlthe couplings 4.
The frame 1 may be suspended from the ceiling or supported upon the floor of a room by means of legs or arm members 5, which as shown in the drawing are secured at their lower ends to the ends 3 through the medium of couplings 6. At their upper ends the legs or arms 5 are provided with attaching plates 7.
To add strength and rigidity to the frame 1, and to prevent the frame from tilting with relation to the legs or arms 5, diagonal braces 8 are employed. At their lower ends the braces 8 are secured to the couplings 4, and at their upper ends to sleeves 9, which snugly receive the legs or arms 5. The side bars 2 are preferably made of wood, and the other parts of the apparatus are preferably made of metal, and the various parts are connected together preferably through the medium of screw threads so as to permit the apparatus to be taken apart when it is desired to shi or store the same. The sleeves 9 are provided with eyes 10 to which stay ropes or cables 11 are attached. The stay ropes or cables 11 are also attached to the ceiling or floor, and are designed to prevent undue strainon the attaching plates 7.
The exercising apparatus may, as stated before, be supported upon the floor or suspended from the ceiling of a room, and it may be made of various sizes so as to permit of its use by children and adults.
It should be apparent that through the medium of the side bars 2, a. great many exercises may be erformed on the apparatus, among which are those exercises which are usually performed on parallel and horizontal bars.
From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, the construction and mode of operation of the invention should be understood without a further extended description.
Changes in the form, proportions and minor details of construction may be made within the scope of the claims without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters-Patent is,
1. In an apparatus of the class described including a pair of supports, an ovalshaped frame carried by and detachably connected to the supports, a sleeve on each sally opposite points With eyes and dis- In testimony whereof I affix my signaposed on each support, braces carried by the ture in presence of two Witnesses. sleeve and connected with the end and side OMER E.
