Description
Headlamp The invention relates to a headlamp for surgical Purposes with a lens optic in an adjustable holder and with a portable supply device arranged at a distance from the headlamp.
If a standard headlamp is used as a light source to illuminate a The work surface used is a combination of a lamp and an optic which is relatively large and unwieldy to make this work surface very intense to illuminate. Apart from the great weight, such an arrangement is when it is used for high-intensity lighting of this work surface, a radiant heater, which generates a large amount of radiant heat that, along with the light, hits the illuminated area is noticeable. It is therefore often necessary to adjust the illuminance to a value less than would be desirable to limit damage to avoid excessive heating of the illuminated object. For example in the manufacture or processing of watches and jewelery and in certain cases Metalworking techniques or in the implementation of medical or surgical Interventions, the heat sensitivity of the viewed object can be so great, that inadequate illumination of the work area is the result.
These difficulties can arise with a headlamp for use in the case of surgical interventions, the facilities for attaching the Lamp on the body of the user including a strap that holds the head of the User surrounds, a lens housing and has devices to this Lens housing adjustable to connect to the tape by according to this invention the supply device contains a strong light source, the light rays of which on the Lens optics of the headlamp via a known one from a large number transmitted from extremely fine, glass-coated glass fibers existing light guide bundle are, whose end on the light source side is a series of annular cooling fins Has.
This construction ensures that the supply device with the high-intensity light source in any suitable place can and, if desired, carried by the user and attached to his body can be. The light guide, which can be 1 to 2 m long or longer, ensures that the strong light source comes from the lens system directing the light onto the work area is located away and isolated. A high level of adaptability and controllability the intensity of the light and the illumination of the work area can continue can be obtained in that the focus is adjustable and the amount of energy supplied to the lamp can be fully controlled.
The long light guide also provides good thermal insulation between the light source and the lens system. An effective means of dissipation the heat that can be coupled with the light source serves to maintain the working temperature of the end of the light guide associated with the light source on a low Worth holding.
There is already a headlamp known in which the energy source for the lamp is attached to the headband, so that overall a heavy, In many cases, the apparatus is not powerful enough for surgical purposes results. Light guide bundles for forwarding light are also known. It was not known, however, fiber optic bundles from a large number of extremely fine glass-coated glass fibers for the transmission of light from a distant light source to use a headlamp.
The invention is explained by way of example with the aid of the figures.

In Fig. 1, there is shown a lighting device 10 according to this invention. The main parts of this device consist of a lens housing 40, a flexible light guide 70 and a supply unit 100 with a very powerful lamp or light source 106. The light from the light source 106 is directed to an end of a long glass fiber bundle, which is located in the light guide 70th The light is guided by the light guide to the lens system in the housing 40, from where it is then projected onto the work area that is to be illuminated. The lens housing is carried by an arm 32 which is attached to a strap 20, which. can be attached to the head of the user.
The band 20 can be formed in any suitable manner. In the present case, it is in the form of a flexible strap that is placed around the wearer's head and is fastened with one or more tabs 24 so as to be adjustable. A cruciate ligament 26 can be attached to the ligament 20 at both ends by means of rivets 26A. The cruciate ligament 26 can be placed over the head of the wearer, and approximately at the top. Place is a loop 26 B through which the light guide 70 leads.
The arm 32 is connected to the band 20 by a ball and socket joint which has a ball 30, preferably made of nylon, attached to one end of the arm 32. A ring 31 cooperates with the ball 30 and has a central opening the diameter of which is smaller than that of the ball. The ring 31 that holds the ball is adjustably screwed onto the housing 33. The ring 31 is locked by means of a threaded nut 31A. The housing 33 is fastened to a carrier plate 22 which is riveted to the band 20.
The arm 32 extends from the ball joint 30 and is suitably angled to form a support for the lens housing 40. A further articulated connection of the arm 32 to the housing 40 takes place by means of a second ball joint which has a ball 34 which is preferably made of nylon and which is fixedly arranged at the other end of the arm 32. The ball joint 34 is designed similar to the ball joint 30 and has a ball receiving ring 36, a lock nut 36A and a joint housing 38.
The joint housing 38 is connected to one end of a sleeve 48 which forms part of the lens housing 40 . The other end of this sleeve 48 has an external thread onto which a jacket tube 41 is screwed. A tubular lens holder 50 is fitted coaxially in the sleeve 48 through which the light guide 70 extends at one end. At the other end of this lens holder is a hemispherical diverging lens 46 which is arranged at one end of the light guide 70 in the manner described below.
An objective lens 42 is arranged in the jacket tube 41 and is held firmly in place by a ring nut 44. The objective lens 42 forms together with the hemispherical lens 46 a projection system for the light exit from the end of the light guide 70. The jacket tube 41 is adjustable on the sleeve 48 unscrewed so that the objective lens is axially relative to the hemispherical Lens 46 can be adjusted and thereby the lens system can be variably focused can.
As shown in Figs. 2 and 3, the light guide 70, which is used to light from the strong light source 106 to the lens housing 40, the Located on the wearer's head, conduct a central, flexible bundle 75 made of a large number of light-conducting, glass-coated glass fibers that form a extremely small in diameter and tightly packed at the ends of the bundle, to form a cylindrical assembly about 6,35 mm (Vi inch) in diameter. The fiber optic bundle 75 can be 2 m (6 feet) or longer.
The glass fibers 75 of the bundle are made in a flexible sheath 76 Rubber or other suitable material included. Either of the two Ends of the sheath 76 is tightly connected to a sleeve 74: the at: the polished Flat, translucent cover plates 72 or 73 hold. A helically wound spring 78, preferably made of corrosion-resistant Steel, extends along the bundle to protect it without sacrificing flexibility get lost. The whole arrangement, except for its ends, is of a flexible one Protective housing 79 surrounded, which is made of suitable material, such as. B. a plastic or d, -, 1., consists.
As already stated, one end of the light guide extends 70 into the lens housing 40 and, as best shown in FIG. 2 can be seen serves a sleeve ring 52 in the lens holder 50 to the end of the light guide 70 against to hold the flat surface of lens 46 firmly so that the end face of the bundle 75 is arranged in the focal plane of the lens system, to which the objective lens 42 heard.
In order to interchangeably connect the light guide 70 to the supply device 100, it is fitted into a plug connection 80 which can be inserted into a plug 90 which is arranged in the side wall of the housing 102 of the light source. The end of the light guide 70 with the cover plate 73 is arranged in the plug 80 and is held in place with a sleeve 81 which in turn is screwed into the plug 80. The outer surface of the plug 80 makes good surface contact with the inner surface of the male coupling 90 and has an annular recess 93 which engages an annular spring 91 in the male coupling.
The supply device 100 is designed as a portable device, the housing 102 of which is provided with a handle 104. A lamp 106, with which an intense light beam is generated, is arranged on a base which is located on a platform 103 in the housing 102. The light from this lamp is focused on a point a short distance in front of the lamp bulb. Adjusting devices, of which only the adjusting screw 107 in FIG. 1 are provided so that the platform 103 on which the lamp and lamp cap are located can be adjusted in the horizontal and vertical directions relative to the end face of the light guide 70. This enables precise adjustment of the position of the lamp 106 in order to bring its focal point into correspondence with the end face of the light guide 70 .
The heat generated by the lamp 106 is dissipated by a fan 120 which is arranged next to an opening 122 covered with a grille and is driven by a motor 124. A radiator, which consists of a plurality of annular ribs 92, which are in good thermal contact with the connector 80 and the end of the fiber optic bundle via the coupling 90 , prevents damage to the latter, which would otherwise be caused by melting the glass of the glass fibers as a result of the intense Heating could take place at the focal point of the lamp.
An off and on switch (not shown) and also a control lamp 118 are provided to facilitate the control of the device. Advantageously, a rheostat 116 is used in conjunction with the transformer 110 , which is required to feed the lamp 106 from a 120 volt line. The rheostat 116 is operated with a suitable control button to regulate the voltage across the lamp 106.
In operation, the tape 20 is drawn onto the wearer's head with the lens housing 40 protruding forwardly above the eyes. When the plug 80 is coupled to the supply device 100 and the switch of the device is on, the desired light intensity can be obtained from the objective lens 42 by adjusting the control button of the rheostat 116 accordingly. The illuminated area can also be easily adjusted by pivoting both the position of the lens housing 40 relative to the arm 32 around the ball joint 34 and the arm around the ball joint 30 relative to the band 20. A vertical and lateral pivoting can thus be carried out in a wide area, which facilitates the lighting of rooms both above and below the viewer and to the right and left of the viewer. The focusing of the lens system can also be easily adjusted by rotating the jacket tube 41 . The rotation of the jacket tube 41 adjusts the focus of the lens system and also serves to vary the diameter of the illuminated area. These settings make it possible to adjust both the light intensity and the light distribution easily and quickly over a wide area.
The light emanating from objective lens 42 is very cool compared to the light emitted by lamp 106, and yet it can illuminate about 6000 foot candles or more at a level of about 12.7 cm from of the lens 42 can be generated remotely. The adjustable focusing of the arrangement according to the invention enables the diameter of the illuminated area to be varied from approximately 3.7 to 12.7 cm at a distance of approximately 12.7 cm from the objective lens 42 . As a result, the level of illumination is significantly greater than was possible with previously known headlights. The device according to the invention is therefore excellently suited as a headlight for doctors, in particular surgeons.
In addition to generating a cool, easily controllable light the lighting device according to the invention is extremely light and compact, so that they can be accessed by the wearer with minimal inconvenience or inconvenience the work it carries out.
