Torrey Smith trade rumors: Eagles offering fifth round pick, 49ers want third

There is talk, but no action yet.

The NFL trade deadline is closing in at 1:00 p.m. PT, and it looks like the San Francisco 49ers and Philadelphia Eagles are a bit apart on a potential trade for Torrey Smith. ESPN’s Ed Werder is reporting the Eagles are willing to deal a fifth round pick for Smith, while the 49ers are looking for a third round pick.

Smith was seen heading out to the practice field on Tuesday, which would indicate a deal was not particularly close at end. That does not mean the two sides are not talking, but given injury potential, if a deal seems close, it would make sense to pull the player.

Either way, time is running out to get a deal done. If a deal is not done by 1:00 p.m. PT, trades are not allowed again until the start of the new league year next March. The Eagles currently hold their own third, fourth, and fifth round picks, as well as the Cleveland Browns fourth round pick. It does not appear the Eagles will get a tradeable comp pick this year.
