The popular, perennial Duluth Arrowhead Home & Builders Show is set to return for its 51st year next week.

The event, which is billed as "the Upper Midwest's largest display of products and ideas for the home and better living," will take place throughout the entire Duluth Entertainment Convention Center.

Featuring exhibitors showcasing the latest in home improvement, decor and landscaping products, the Duluth Arrowhead Home & Builders Show also offers a full schedule of seminars.

There will be 12 different seminars occurring in two rooms on a rotating basis covering topics from gardening to geo-thermal heating. One of particular interest, according to Ron Murphy of Shamrock Productions, organizer of the show, will concern a new building material for basement foundations.

"A truck can come out with brick," he said. "They can put that all around the foundation, and it can take a couple of days. This system can come out and have it done in a half hour."

The foundation walls are made of a composite material and are billed as an energy solution, Chris Navratil of Shamrock explained.

Energy-related products and solutions will be a large part of the show, with 70-100 exhibitors focusing in this area, Murphy said.

Another highlight will be the tiny homes - generally defined as structures that are 500 square feet or less - on display. The popularity of tiny homes has grown in the last few years, according to Tiny Home Builders website.

In addition to the wide array of home products, the show also features entertainment for the entire family. New this year is Rainbow Kids Zone, which will have on display - and for play - playground and other residential play equipment.

Free face painting and animal balloons will also be available for children.

Visitors can also check out some colorful feathered friends at Parakeet Landing, where hundreds of parakeets will be available to interact with.

"It is a great family event," Navratil said. "A well-rounded show with something for everyone."

This year's event will also feature an exhibit entitled "Never Forget," created in memoriam for those who lost their lives on 9/11. The exhibit features artifacts and is hosted by New York City Firefighters who survived the terrorist attacks on 9/11.

"It's a way of saying thank you to those who served," Murphy said. "Whether in New York or Duluth, it makes no difference."

The exhibit will be greeted in Duluth on Sunday, April 2 at 12:30 p.m. with a procession of emergency vehicles on the lower side of Railroad Street in front of the DECC.

"We want to give them a warm welcome," Navratil said.

The procession will continue onto Harbor Drive past the William S. Irvin, where it will conclude by entering the DECC. The public is invited to attend and welcome the exhibit to Duluth. Those who show up by noon along Harbor View Drive and Railroad Street will receive small American flags to wave as the procession drives by. The exhibit will not be available for viewing until the show opens Wednesday and is included with the price of admission.
