It looks like Beast Mode is looking to set the NFL record for shortest retirement.
According to Pro Football Talk's Mike Florio, Marshawn Lynch is currently mulling over a possible return to football.
"I'm told that he's currently up in the air about a potential return," Florio said during NBC's NFL pregame show.
In case you missed it earlier this year, the Seahawks running back abruptly announced his retirement on Twitter during the fourth quarter of Super Bowl 50.
If Marshawn does decide to make a comeback, it won't likely won't happen until later in the season.
"Keep an eye on Week 4 or Week 5 for the possibility of an unretirement," Florio said.
Although this news will probably come as shock to most people, it likely won't come as a shock to his former teammates. Just three months ago, Seahawks corner Richard Sherman said he wouldn't be surprised if Lynch returned at some point in 2016.
"I don't put anything past him," Sherman said in May. "He's about as predictable as a pair of dice. So I don't try to call his plays."
Seahawks general manager John Schneider also sounded unsure when he was asked in May if he thought Lynch would stay retired.
The Seahawks also haven't heard anything from Lynch about a possible return, according to ESPN's Ed Werder.
If Lynch does decide to make a comeback, the Seahawks are going to have to come to a quick decision about his status with the team. Once he's officially unretired, Seattle would have three options: They could keep him, cut him or trade him.
The Seahawks are pretty set at running back right now, but if Thomas Rawls or Christine Michael start to struggle through the early portion of the season, the team might welcome Lynch back with open arms.
If the franchise does decide to hold on to Lynch it would have to pay the prorated portion of the $9 million base salary that he's due in 2016. Right now, the Seahawks aren't paying him anything because he's on the reserve-retired list.
Lynch has been staying in football shape by filling in as a sub during recent practices held by his alma mater. That's right, Lynch has been playing college football for the past few months. Beast Mode put some pads on and literally helped run the scout team while Cal was in Australia for their season opener.
