As hardcore coffee lovers, we've explored all the wonderful things you can use the grounds for around your home. But did you know that many people apply coffee to their legs? Using coffee grounds to eliminate cellulite is an oft-repeated beauty trick that has led to innumerable DIY recipes and cosmetic products — but does it actually get rid of those bumps and ripples? Well, there's good news and there's bad news.

Let's start with the bad news. "Cellulite is fibrous bands that go from the top of your skin to the fat layer, pulling it down," says dermatologist Dr. Mona Gohara. "Those bands need to be severed to make cellulite go away." Unfortunately for those who seek to make cellulite disappear, coffee grounds can't achieve this indefinitely.

Now for the good news: Scrubbing coffee grounds on your skin can reduce the appearance of cellulite temporarily. "Caffeine stimulates dilation while the scrubbing motion increases circulation, plumping up the skin and making cellulite look less obvious," Gohara explains. "Plus, coffee grounds contain antioxidants, so they can increase collagen production."

Gohara says the effects can last about a week, so if you're headed on beach vacation or wear a thigh-exposing mini in the near future, try massaging a coffee scrub into your skin. At the very least, you'll be giving yourself a delightful-smelling spa treatment at home.
