Anthony Bourdain Has Never Seen a City Like Lagos Before

Next up on Parts Unknown, Anthony Bourdain travels to Lagos, which is not only the largest city in Nigeria, but the whole of Africa. In a metropolis of roughly 20 million people, Bourdain finds food and culture that takes him by complete surprise.

“It’s mad, it’s bad, it’s delicious, it’s confusing, and I’ve never seen anything like it,” the chef-turned-TV host says in the episode. “Never seen anything like it” — those are strong words coming from someone who has been around the world and made nearly 300 episodes of travel television over the past 15 years.

Beyond the Lagosian cuisine — fresh fish, beef, spicy soups, pounded yams — that Bourdain finds delectable, he is taken aback by the city’s remarkable marketplaces and economy.
