iPhone owners are happier, wealthier, and more popular than Android users, study claims (but they're also more vain)

  • Survey of iPhone and Android users revealed several lifestyle differences
  • iPhone spend double what Android users do on clothes, makeup, beauty supply
  • They also earn more than Android users on average, and have more close friends
  • The survey also found iPhone owners take more selfies than Android users do

A playful feud has been brewing for years between iPhone and Android users – and, new research suggests there really are differences between the types of people that prefer each brand.

In a survey of 1,000 iPhone owners and 1,000 Android owners, Slickdeals found iPhone and Android users differ in their spending habits, lifestyle choices, and social behaviors.

While the two spend a similar amount of time glued to their respective phones each day, the survey suggests iPhone owners generally make and spend more money than Android users.

People who own the Apple devices also tend to have more friends, go on more vacations, and take more selfies.

According to the survey, both iPhone and Android users spend at least 25 percent of the day looking at their phones.

On average, this works out to be 4 hours and 54 minutes for iPhone users, and 3 hours and 42 minutes for Android users.

The differences become much more apparent when comparing the lifestyles of the two groups.

While iPhone owners make an average salary of $53,251, Android users make about $37,040.

Unsurprisingly, iPhone owners also spend more money per month on clothing ($117.13), tech ($100.88), and makeup/beauty products ($82.71).

In each case, Android users spend about half of what iPhone owners do, the survey found.

‘This survey indicates that Android users are generally more frugal than their iPhone counterparts, and on the hunt for savings while shopping,’ said Slickdeals CEO Josh Meyers.

‘Meanwhile, iPhone users tend to spend more, particularly on items related to self-image such as clothing and cosmetics.’

Android users also appear to prefer time alone more so than iPhone users, with these people reporting that their ideal weekend night is spent ‘Curled up on the couch watching TV/movie or reading a book.’

ARE YOU ONE OF THE NEARLY 50% OF SMARTPHONE USERS ADDICTED TO THEIR HANDSET?

Worrying research published in December 2017 revealed we reach for our smartphones around 4,000 times a year for no apparent reason.

Each day we unlock our phone 28 times - and over a third of the time this is compulsive and unnecessary.

The apps we crave most are Facebook, followed by WhatsApp, Gmail and Instagram, the survey found.

Experts from Malta-based online casino Casumo.com looked at 2,000 UK smartphone users in order to find out whether checking their device was out of habit or necessity.

The average American clicks, taps or swipes on their smartphone screen more than 2,600 times a day, with some reaching an astonishing 5,400 times

They found more than 40 percent of the 10,000 times users check smartphones each year is 'compulsive'.

The top ten percent of users check their phones more than 60 times a day.

More than one in three people think they are addicted to checking their phone with the average user spending nearly an hour each day on their phone.

The survey also found Google Maps is considered the most useful app while WhatsApp and Gmail come second and third.

Google Chrome is fourth and Facebook comes in fifth.

For Apple users, on the other hand, the ideal night is being ‘Out and about with friends.’

iPhone users also send more text per day, at 58 compared to 26 for Android users, and have a higher number of close friends (5, compared to 3).

They also take an average of four leisure trips per year, while Android users generally take three.

And, while iPhone users take about 12 selfies per day, Android users take just 7.

The two groups even differ when it comes to their taste in entertainment.

While iPhone users prefer Horror, Drama, and Romance, with their top shows being Game of Thrones, Grey's Anatomy, Friends, and The Walking Dead, Android users prefer Thrillers, Action, and Adventure, counting NCIS, Law & Order, and SNL among their favorites.
