Marcus Mariota didn’t get a lot of love in the early ratings for EA Sports’ “Madden NFL 19.'” The Titans’ quarterback received a 79 overall rating, which tied him for No. 25 among quarterbacks with the likes of rookie Lamar Jackson, Joe Flacco, Teddy Bridgewater and Sam Bradford.
The rating seemed pretty low when considering what Mariota has done over the last few seasons compared to those players, but EA Sports does adjust the ratings throughout the year. We projected Mariota’s overall number to go up significantly throughout the season.
Now, thanks to some lobbying from the Titans’ official Twitter account, it looks like Mariota might get a bump before the season starts.
If nothing else, Mariota’s stiff-arm ability should be unmatched among the game’s quarterbacks. Rumor has it they’re still peeling Barry Church off the turf at Nissan Stadium.
Even if EA Sports decides not to improve Mariota’s rating before the season, he’ll have all year in a new offensive system to try and change their minds. It’s hard to imagine that number won’t see a small bump before the year, and then a larger one as he shows improvement in the new offense.
