Premier League table since Jose Mourinho was appointed shows how Tottenham are true contenders for top four
Jose Mourinho has been at Tottenham for nearly three months now and it has been anything but dull.
We had a Mourinho masterclass last weekend where his Spurs side beat defending Premier League champions Man City.
The former Chelsea and Manchester United boss even interviewed himself in his press conference on transfer deadline day.
The results on the pitch have also been positive for Mourinho since he was appointed by the club as Mauricio Pochettino’s replacement on November 20.
Tottenham’s win against City on Sunday lifted them into fifth place and just four points behind Chelsea in the final Champions League spot.
When Mourinho took over, Spurs were in 14th place and 11 points behind fourth spot.
The north London club have also had to cope without star man Harry Kane since his injury on New Year’s Day.
Here is how the Premier League table would look if the season had started once Mourinho had taken over.
Tottenham have been the fourth best performing team since Mourinho took over and just three points off the pace of Man City following their 2-0 win at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
It's impressive given they have appeared to struggle at points and even though their defence is creaky they have the fourth best defence since the Portuguese's arrival - and the fourth best attack.
Liverpool are, unsurprisingly, head and shoulders above the competition having won all 13 of their games in that time.
The surprise from this table is the form Southampton have shown since November 20 with a remarkable 23 points from their 13 games. They were in 19th place in the table on just eight points at that time but have now managed to climb into mid-table thanks to a terrific run of form.
If Spurs can carry on their recent run of form then they have a good chance of usurping Chelsea and grabbing the final Champions League spot.
They will face competition from Sheffield United, one point further back, and Manchester United and Wolves, who are two points behind Tottenham.
