UFC 107 weigh-in: Mir packs on the beef for Kongo

Brock Lesnar left a lasting impression on Frank Mir at UFC 100. Mir felt like a weakling in the loss and since July, he set out to fix what he perceived as a lack of bulk and strength. Mir fought Lesnar at 243 pounds. Today, just over six months later, Mir weighed in at 264.5, just a half pound under the heavyweight limit.

Mir let out a sigh on the scale as if to signal maybe 264.5 wasn't part of the plan. Or was it? He's been working since late summer with former Strongman contestant Mark Philippi. Philippi sounded ridiculous during "Countdown to UFC 107" when he said that Mir had already added 20-25 pounds of muscle with his new training regimen. He was right. Mir did look bigger but there was no huge gut even up 21 pounds.

Kongo is still livid about the way Mir has spoken about him during the prefight. During their faceoff, the 6-foot-4, 239-pounder turned his back on Mir. Mir shrugged his shoulders, pointed to Kongo's back and then made a choke motion possibly suggesting how he would finish Kongo.

The weigh-ins for the non-televised fights were a weight-missing bonanza. Five fighters initially missed by at least half a pound.

Edgar Garcia was three pounds over the welterweight limit of 170 and has to make 171 in the next hour (UPDATE: Garcia came back at 3:34 p.m. CT and weighed in at 171). His opponent DaMarques Johnson also missed but only by half a pound. Johnson elected to drop his short to make weight. That prompted UFC color voice Joe Rogan to start cracking jokes:

"Notice how quickly the ring girls moved away just in case a straight [expletive] comes their way."

Two fights later, both Johny Hendricks and Ricardo Funch missed at 171.5.

"Jesus Christ, it's penis night here. What is it about Memphis? Is there heavy air here?" Rogan said after the corn-rowed Funch missed.

When Hendricks missed, Rogan said, "A half a pound of underwear, might want to clean out those bad boys."

That's when some big dude began yelling, "fix the scale!"

"It seems ridiculous that a rather rotund gentleman is the one who says the scale is broken," said Rogan "How do you know the scale's broken? The scale's accurate folks. Too much barbecue here. The food's too god damn delicious."

The middleweight fight between Alan Belcher and Wilson Gouveia will go down at 195 pounds instead of the limit of 185. For unknown reasons, Gouveia asked for a catch weight of 190. Belcher countered by saying he was already at 195 so why cut any weight?

T.J. Grant almost tripped coming up the stairs onto the stage. With the UFC's luck recently it's shocking he didn't have to pull out of the fight.
