The Moncton Wildcats Fan Choice Awards seem like a long way off, but the 2019-2020 regular season is winding down. Team Award Ceremonies always signify the end of the regular season.
It’s championship or bust for the Moncton Wildcats, but it’s always noteworthy to see who the possible frontrunners are at the present time.
Here’s my take on the 2019-2020 Awards and how they might break down.
Most Improved Player: Tristan DeJong
Tristan DeJong has had an outstanding season for the Cats.
DeJong’s has seen a plethora of d partners this season and continues to be one of the Cats most dependable, reliable and durable defenders.
It’s all about consistency when you mention the former free agent defender Tristan DeJong.
If the Cats are going to go where they want to go, Tristan DeJong will play a massive role.
Unsung Hero: Sean Stewart
Sean Stewart epitomizes the term unsung hero. Stewart isn’t flashy he just comes to play night in and night out. What you see is what you get from the quiet confident defencemen.

Stewart is a winner and a team player, if that means dropping the gloves and sticking up for his teammates or logging big minutes in critical times or killing penalties and blocking shots the kid from Antigonish will go through a wall to help his team win.
Top Goal Scorer: Jeremy McKenna
The Summerside Sniper will catch fire and will end the season as the Cats top goal scorer.
That’s a bold prediction given so much offensive depth and talent on the Cats.
I’m not a big fan of making predictions, but it’s evident that McKenna with his new linemates Pelletier and Khovanov will undoubtedly start filling the net.
The goals recently have been hard to come by for the overage sharp shooter, nevertheless, it’s just a matter of time before the offensive star rises.
Through it all Jeremy McKenna never stopped working.
Top Points Award: Alexander Khovanov and Jakob Pelletier
Alexander Khovanov and Jakob Pelletier will be going to head to head the rest of the way.

To be brutally honest, these players don’t give a rats ass about points, they just want to win and that’s what’s it’s all about.
Lacroix putting Jeremy McKenna with the lethal duo only strengthens Pelletier and Khovanov’s point totals.
That trio could be in fact the most complete line in the entire QMJHL.
Outstanding Defensive Player: Jordan Spence
Outstanding epitomizes Jordan Spence on and off the ice.
The LA Kings Draft Pick has had a tremendous season so far for the Cats.
Spence is coming off a recording breaking and spectacular rookie season, but has certainly topped that in many ways this year. Spence is a more complete player than last season and is starting to find the back of the net as well.
Spence is the defensive and offensive catalyst for the Cats.
Axel Andersson and Jared McIsaac have been nothing short of outstanding this season as well, but no one can ever take away Jordan Spence’s importance to the Moncton Wildcats.
Rookie of the Year: Zachary L’Heureux
The 3rd overall pick of the 2019 QMJHL has had an incredible rookie campaign.
L’Heureux’s work ethic has been suspect as of late, but that’s to be expected for such a young player.
Peaks and valleys are to be expected, but there’s no question Zachary L’Heureux has been a big piece of the Wildcats success.
L’Heureux is currently playing on the Cats fourth line, but don’t worry he will be in the Cats Top 9 come playoff time.
Zachary L’Heureux is a special player who has a very bright future in the game.
Scholastic Player: Christian Huntley
Christian Huntley epitomizes the true essence of the student-athlete.
The overage defencemen has been very solid so far on and off ice for the Wildcats, Huntley has been a rock on the Cats blue line this season and will no doubt continue to his playing career at the USports level.
The Rebecca Schofield Community Spirit Award: Jacob Hudson
Jacob Hudson is the Moncton Wildcats heart and soul on and off the ice.
Hudson is a winner and captain material and is a natural born leader.
The diminutive highly skilled gritty forward makes time for everyone and is very personable in the community.
Hudson is a fierce competitor on the ice, but a caring compassionate person off of it.
Jacob Hudson just gets it, he understands the value of hard work and the impact hockey players can have in the community.
Most Valuable Player: Jakob Pelletier
Jakob Pelletier is the straw that stirs the drink for the Moncton Wildcats.
Pelletier continues to elevate his game and through it all has carried the organization on his back ever since he arrived in the Hub City.
The Calgary Flames 1st rounder sense of humour is legendary, but that young man knows what to say and when to deliver when it matters most, which makes him the perfect captain.
Pelletier or AKA “Mr. Everything” is arguably the most complete player in the QMJHL and will undoubtedly lead the Moncton Wildcats to the promise land or die trying.
Commitment To Excellence: Ritchie Thibeau
Commitment to excellence defines Ritchie Thibeau almost perfectly.
Thibeau’s efforts and ability to build a championship caliber team and arguably one the franchises best is truly remarkable.

Thibeau doesn’t crave the limelight or attention, he just goes about his business behind the scenes.
Thibeau’s commitment to the organization in all of his roles over the years certainly deserves recognition.
