Terrell Davis says Broncos have been thrilled with Royce Freeman

Pro Football Hall of Fame running back Terrell Davis still has connections with the Denver Broncos. Appearing on NFL Network earlier this week, Davis shared a nugget about the team’s third-round pick, Oregon running back Royce Freeman.

“I’ve talked to people in Denver, and they’re just thrilled by what they see in camp and what they saw in minicamp from Royce Freeman,” Davis said on NFL Total Access, via NFL.com’s Chris Wesseling. “They think he’s going to be the starting running back.”

Freeman averaged 5.9 yards per carry during his time with the Ducks, which is a great total. And while there’s no guarantee that his production will carry over to the pros, Freeman seems poised to push Devontae Booker for the starting job. Booker has averaged just 3.6 yards per carry in Denver.

Freeman and Booker are among five running backs competing for the Broncos’ starting job, joining De’Angelo Henderson, David Williams and Phillip Lindsay. Denver is in need of a new starter after releasing C.J. Anderson earlier this offseason.

Right now, it looks like Freeman may be the favorite.
