Report: Celtic set to sign highly-rated Canadian defender Emile Legault

Scottish Premiership champions Celtic handed a trial to former Auxere centre-back Legault and it seems he impressed.

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers is seen during the first leg UEFA Champions League Qualifier between Celtic and Rosenborg at Celtic Park Stadium on July 25, 2018 in Glasgow, Scotland.

Celtic have been linked with a number of defenders throughout the transfer window and it seems that they are about to land one on Thursday – albeit one who will not immediately improve Brendan Rodgers’ starting XI.

According to Get French Football, Celtic are expected to sign the 18-year-old Emile Legault today after the teenager enjoyed an initial trial period with the Scottish Premiership champions.

Legault’s name has cropped up a few times in recent weeks in conjunction with Celtic. The youngster, who most recently played in France for Auxerre, was included on the team sheet for a clash with Manchester United in July.

And it seems that Legault has done enough to convince Celtic to snap him up on a permanent basis. A centre-back by trade, he can also play at right-back and was part of the Canada U21 side that finished sixth at the recent Toulon Tournament.

It remains to be seen what Celtic’s immediate plans are for the versatile defender.

With Mikael Lustig, Cristian Gamboa and Tony Ralston all capable of playing on the right and with a number of options in the centre too, Legault is likely to feature for the Hoops’ second string over the next few months.
