Fantastic new home communities are being built in Langley BC

Langley is a great community to raise kids in. From top-tier schools to homes on larger lots, there are a whole host of reasons why couples looking to start a family in the Vancouver-area should start looking east. Thankfully, Langley isn’t just “some farm town” anymore. In fact, the city is full of great local businesses, including trendy restaurants like Joseph Richards Group’s “The Italian” and the “Rail and River Bistro” in Fort Langley.

But, what should Langley-based families do on the weekend? Well, here’s our top five family-friendly activities that Langley families should not pass on:

Aldergrove Credit Union Community Centre

Where to find it: 27032 Fraser Highway, Aldergrove, BC

Announced in early 2016 and now open, the Aldergrove Credit Union Community Centre includes a new 500-seat arena with an NHL-sized ice rink, a state-of-the-art fitness centre and studio with the second floor being home to an indoor running track. But the real treat of the new development has to be the outdoor area. The Otter Co-op Outdoor Experience includes an outdoor leisure pool, six-lane lap pool, a waterslide tower, tidal pool, and lazy lagoon. Parents won’t have to worry as much about over-exposing their children to the sun as the outdoor pool and swim area will be primarily covered by a canopy, which only adds to the unique design of the building.

Krause Berry Farms

Where to find it: 6179 248 St, Langley, BC V4W 1C3

U-Pick fields and playtime galore, Krause Berry Farms has become more than just a local purveyor of award-winning wine. The farm also has a full play area, known as the Fresh Family Fun Field, which opens at the end of June. The Fun Field introduces children as young as two to the fun of farming through interactive games including giant strawberry jumping pads, tractor training, and cow milking simulations. Plus on weekends, there’s a tractor train ride for all the family to enjoy. Don’t worry, Mom and Dad…there’s fun for you too! Take home some wine made using their own berries to enjoy once the little ones have gone to bed!

Greater Vancouver Zoo

Where to find it: 5048 264th Street, Langley, BC

With animals from A to Z (literally) the Greater Vancouver Zoo is a go-to summer spot for many families in the Lower Mainland. The Vancouver Zoo has been going in one form or another since 1970. The first site was a “pet” project of businessman Pat Hines known as the Vancouver Farm Game, which eventually evolved into the Greater Vancouver Zoological Centre, and finally settling with its current name in the late 1990s. The zoo offers educational programmes, the highlight of which has to be the Radical Raptor Birds of Prey show where owls, falcons, and eagles take to the skies, occasionally buzzing the heads of audience members.

Extreme Air Park

Where to find it: 9499 198th Street, Langley, BC

For more mature families, the Extreme Air Park offers a fun afternoon of trampolining, bounce ball tumbling, and an adventure park that resembles the hit athletic show, American Ninja Warrior. Whether it’s a game of 3D dodgeball–where guests can avoid being hit by bouncing off the walls and floor–or checking out the latest tricks in the foam zone, Extreme Air Park is an excellent place for teens, tweens, and parents alike.

With the West Coast also being the Wet Coast, outdoor activities are not always the best option. For those days, The Great Escape offers respite from the rain while still providing plenty of fun. With three levels of activities including a variety of slides, a spinning log to practice your best lumberjack impression on, and a variety of arcade games. That’s not even mentioning the laser tag and mini golf, which allows for the whole family to join in the fun.
