ABSTRACT

This chapter aims to analyse the ways in which Kosovo Serbian women members of the national parliament engage and negotiate with the concept of Kosovo’s statehood. More specifically, the chapter dwells on how gender and ethnicity interact in producing specific patterns of legitimation and challenging the state. It begs the question: How does gender impact the negotiation process of Serbian Women parliament members with the state of Kosovo? The chapter embarks on content analysis to discover how the intersections between gender and ethnicity impact the ways in which Kosovo Serb women represent their constituents within the framework of the Kosovo state. It also incorporates an analysis of the larger constellation of the Serbian List party to further understand these dynamics. The topic is of importance due to the lack of knowledge on how Serbian minority women of Kosovo engage with the concept of Kosovo’s statehood. The dynamic is further complicated by the reality of the civil servant title that these women hold while simultaneously challenging the foundational tenets of Kosovo’s statehood.
