Maruti Suzuki Omni [2010 - 2019] • Price, Variants & Specifications

The Maruti Omni needs no introduction. At any given point of time in the day, one runs into at least two or three of these cars out on the roads. They are used by a long list of people for a large range of purposes. The Maruti Omni now comes in a special edition which has a lot of nifty new additions. The car will come with some extra features and improvements, but the engine will remain the same. All the variants of the Maruti Omni range between Rs. 2,40,000 to Rs. 3,40,000. The best testament to the good quality of the car is the fact that it was first released in 1985 and in 2013, we still have new variants of the same car being released.

Engine & Performance

The Maruti 900 is capable of delivering around 10.7 kmpl mileage within the city and around 14.7 kmpl on the highway. The car comes with a 0.8 liter engine. The engine has a displacement of 796 cc. The maximum torque delivered by the car is 57 Nm at 2500 rpm and the maximum power generated is 32.8 bhp. The car is quite efficient- it is powerful enough for the Indian roads and it is strong enough to handle a lot of storage as well. The car's suspension is not really the best in the industry, but it is pretty good for a car of its grade. The car does come with good acceleration and the driving quality is quite good.

Exteriors

The Maruti Omni comes in 6 colors- Superior White, Metallic crystal gold, Metallic Caribbean blue, Metallic icy blue, metallic silky silver and bright red. Since the car was launched in 1985, it has seen few changes in its design. The sliding doors, the rectangular body frame, etc. have become synonymous with the Omni. The car has a rear hatch tail gate, front bumpers, a large rear windscreen, tail lamps and black plastic surrounds for the clear lens unit. The tail gate is actually chrome plated as well. The Maruti Omni, one can say, served as an inspiration for the Eeco (which does borrow a few elements of design from the Maruti Omni).

Interiors

The Maruti Omni comes with a 5 seater option and an eight seater option. In the five seater option, there would be a larger space for storage purposes. The upholstery has been changed to make it a little more comfortable and aesthetic to look at as well. The new upholstery is dual toned. The car has some cup holders in the front and the middle rows. There is a small, mediocre glove box and a simple dashboard with just the basic comforts.

Features & Specification

The car's limited edition version comes with a CD player, aux in support for the CD player, new seat covers, 4 speakers etc. The car comes with just a basic entertainment unit, even though one can spend some money to get the system updated or upgraded to a better one. The Omni does lack safety features. It might be the lack of safety features that actually led to Maruti Suzuki launching the Maruti Eeco, with some added safety features as well.

The Maruti Omni has become a really popular car for those who transport a lot of things because this car is perfectly made to suit any storage and carrying needs. This car is good for people who have to carry a lot of things for commercial purposes. This car is not good for family purposes or for recreational driving.
