Laughter at Husky and Labrador's Very Different Reaction to Cold Weather

Every dog is different, some love the beach, some hate water, some are happiest in the freezing temperatures, while others will pass on a walk on snow days.

A video posted to TikTok by @grizzlythehuskybear perfectly displays the difference between two of the most popular breeds, a black Labrador and a husky.

In the video which has been viewed over 9.6 million times, a husky can be seen rolling around in thick snow, sticking his head under the surface, loving life.

"My husky when it's 2 degrees outside vs," reads the text, followed by: "My lab when it's 2 degrees outside," as the footage cuts to a smug looking black Labrador curled up in front of a log fire.

"As long as they're both happy," says the caption.

Huskies are known for their love of cold weather and snow, living outside all year round in freezing temperatures once acclimatized with their specially designed fur coat.

"Huskies have two coats, a top coat made of guard hairs that trap air and keep snow, wind, and water off their thick insulative undercoat," explain Wag Walking. "These two coats keep your Husky snug as a bug in a rug! In Alaska and Canada, Huskies frequently live and sleep outside in temperatures of -40 degrees Fahrenheit or colder."

Despite the breed being associated with the snow, do not just kick your husky out in the snow.

"If he is used to living inside you will need to take some steps to ensure he has what he needs to live outside and that he is gradually acclimated and prepared to tolerate cold weather," added Wag Walking.

Labradors might not be as suited to the snow as huskies, however they do have other talents.

Known as "water dogs," Labradors have webbed feet to help them swim fast through the water, and their thick tail acts as a rudder to propel them further.

"Their thick, waterproof coats keep them happy even in cold water, like the icy Newfoundland waters where they were first bred," add the American Kennel Club. "All of these traits make Labs great competitors in Diving Dogs trials."

Users on TikTok loved the video, with many sharing their own pet stories.

"No wonder my Husky/lab mixture will jump in the pool when it's 40° but also refuse to go outside when it's raining," commented one user.

"My chihuahua must thinks she's a husky it's -2 in Chicago right now and she wants to keep playing in the snow," said another user.

"Our husky was a sunbather. You'd catch him outside during 100+ weather basking, we had to force him in. He HATED snow. He was broken," shared a third user.
