Short trip to Neuschwanstein Castle

Very close to the world-famous Neuschwanstein Castle, the family-run Altstadthotel "Zum Hechten" is situated in the middle of the picturesque old town of Füssen. At the Hotel "Zum Hechten" you will find everything you need for a perfect visit of Neuschwanstein Castle. Guide for visiting Neuschwanstein Castle

The royal palaces of King Ludwig II. can only be visited in a guided tour. The tickets can be bought at the ticket center Hohenschwangau. Please note that the tour takes place at a certain time. Come to the meeting point on time, as tours start punctually and visitors who are late will not be considered. From the ticket center you will reach Neuschwanstein Castle within 30-40 minutes via an upward footpath. Alternatively, you have the possibility to go to the castle by bus or by horse-drawn carriage. The stop is not right at the castle, though, but near the Marienbrücke. From here you will have to walk approx. 15 minutes.

 

Where can I buy tickets for Neuschwanstein Castle?

Because the number of visitors to the castle is limited, tickets are often sold out several days to weeks in advance during highly frequented times. Remaining contingents available at the ticket center in Hohenschwangau are also usually sold out very quickly. Therefore, we strongly recommend to book your ticket online in advance in time. Here you will also find the current prices. You do not necessarily have to print out the tickets. You can also use your mobile phone to show the QR code at the entrance (please make sure that your display is undamaged, your protective film is not too dark and your battery is charged). Please be in the castle courtyard of the respective castle punctually at your admission time. You will find the tour number that is printed on your ticket also on the monitors at the turnstiles. Please enter the respective castle through these turnstiles at your admission time. You will be picked up at the castle by your castle guide.

The Bavarian Administration of Palaces clearly points out that pets are not allowed in the castle. Moreover, due to the limited space, strollers, frame rucksacks as well as rucksacks unfortunately cannot be taken with you into the castle.

How long does a guided tour last at Neuschwanstein Castle?

The tour of the castle lasts approx. 30 minutes. Keep in mind, however, that you will have to get up to the castle first and that there are nice walks on the premises. In summer, a crossing of the Marienbrücke is worth the time and will give you a special view. Moreover, we recommend a visit of King Ludwig II.’s youth castle: Hohenschwangau Castle. All in all, a visit to the two royal palaces takes at least 4 hours.

When should you visit Neuschwanstein Castle?

It is best to visit Neuschwanstein Castle during the week off-season. During the holidays, numerous tourists are in the castle - especially in the summer months and around Christmas. Moreover, you should begin your excursion to the royal palaces rather early.

How far is Neuschwanstein Castle from the Hotel Zum Hechten?

The fairy-tale castle of King Ludwig II.’s is about 2,5 miles from the hotel. We recommend to go there by bus (line 73 & line 78). The bus ride takes only 10 minutes from Fussen station and is free for guests staying overnight with the FussenCard. Of course, it is also possible to reach Neuschwanstein Castle by car. Chargeable parking lots are available in Hohenschwangau.

Hiking lovers can follow the traces of King Ludwig II. on the Three-Castle-Tour. During the 9 miles long hike you will pass Neuschwanstein Castle, Hohenschwangau Castle as well as the High Castle above Füssen. The moderate hike starts at the tourist info Füssen.
