Pietro Camardella drew the brilliant design of Ferrari 456 under the inspiring tutelage of Lorenzo Ramaciotti at Pininfarina. The car was first introduced in 1992.
This example was supplied on the 16th March 1994 by the Tamsen Ferrari in Suth, Germany (now Penske Hamburg). Since it arrived in the Netherlands in 2000 it has only had one caring owner. There is no other word to describe the kind of maintenance lavished on this Ferrari 456 but maniacal. The Ferrari 456 is an advanced piece of engineering being wonderfully built as well as being an out and out Ferrari Grand Tourer.
This Ferrari 456 is one of 1,435 cars built at Pininfarina as recognisable by the Pininfarina badge on the rear quarter. Later cars were completely built by Ferrari themselves. Pininfarina had developed a special way to weld the aluminium panelwork to the steel chassis using a “sandwich filler”. This made the 456’s bodywork a masterclass in material use. The steel chassis is topped with aluminium panels and a composite bonnet.
This particular car is visually as well mechanically is very good shape. This is not surprising considering the enormous amount of invoices present. In total, some € 108,154.77 has been spent on this car since 2000. The work carried out includes a full engine rebuild, a heap of regular maintenance, new suspension, all new hoses, complete new heater, re-bolstering of the seats, fuel tank treatment, a respray of the rims, new oil hoses, respray of the doors as well as the installation of a completely new air-conditioning unit. The Schedoni leather car wallet also forms part of the car’s itinerary.
No effort or expense was too much in keeping this Ferrari 456 in prime condition. The car, therefore, drives supremely well. Rest rusts is a saying used about people but it also holds true for cars. Due to its regular use, this Ferrari is not troubled by that particular problem. In a world that usually sees cars with 20,000 km or less on the clock, 110,000 may seem a lot. Divide that by its 27 years it actually works out at just over 4,000 km a year. Why in heavens name would you not want to use such a fine beast on a regular basis? This is a car to enjoy rather than worry about the mileage!
The bodywork is in great shape. The fine panelwork has clearly been well looked after. The alignment is also correct. The black external finish has been well maintained. The wheels look great and, as mentioned above, have benefitted from a respray.
Inside the car, things are just fine with the red leather seats contrasting lovely with the black paintwork. The leather has also been correctly conserved and with the re-bolstered seats, you will sit as pretty and comfortable as the day this Ferrari 456 left the Tamsen forecourt.
Mechanically this car is exactly as one would expect from the car’s provenance: perfect! The 65 degrees 5.5 litre V12 develops 442 Ps with the Tubi Style exhaust producing that fantastic exhaust note. The robust engine is attached to a manual 6-speed gearbox. The gearbox is a delight to shift with the clutch working with precision. Thanks to the new suspension and steering housing the car has a fantastic and sure-footed road-holding.
In short; this Ferrari 456 is in impeccable condition with the added benefit that you do not need to worry about clocking up the extra mile or two. With such an excellent state of maintenance, you can easily double the mileage in the coming years. Dit exemplaar werd op 16 maart 1994 nieuw geleverd door Ferrari dealer Tamsen in Stuh in Duitsland (thans Penske Hamburg). In 2000 kwam de auto naar Nederland en heeft hier slechts één liefhebbende eigenaar gehad. De auto is maniakaal onderhouden, een andere omschrijving zou de technische conditie van deze Ferrari 456 tekort doen. Een Ferrari 456 is een prachtig geavanceerd stuk techniek, de auto is op prachtige wijze vervaardigd en is een op en top Ferrari Grand Tourer.
Deze Ferrari 456 is één van de 1.435 auto’s die bij Pininfarina zijn gebouwd en is onder andere te herkennen aan de Pininfarina badge op het achter scherm. Latere auto’s werden volledig bij Ferrari in eigen beheer vervaardigd. Pininfarina had een speciale werkwijze ontwikkeld die het mogelijk maakte om aluminium plaatwerk op een stalen chassis te lassen door een speciale “sandwich filler” te gebruiken. De body van de 456 is dan ook een tour de force van materiaalgebruik. Het stalen chassis is bekleed met aluminium plaatwerk en een composiet motorkap.
Dit exemplaar verkeert zowel optisch als technisch in zeer goede staat. Dat is ook niet zo verwonderlijk gezien de enorme stapel facturen die bij de auto aanwezig zijn. Het totale bedrag dat sinds 2000 in deze auto is geïnvesteerd bedraagt maar liefst € 108.154,77. De werkzaamheden omvatten onder andere een volledige motorrevisie, veel regulier onderhoud, vernieuwen van het onderstel, alle koelslangen vernieuwen, kachel compleet nieuw, stoelen opnieuw laten vullen, de brandstoftank behandelen, diverse relais vernieuwen, de velgen opnieuw laten spuiten, de olieleidingen vernieuwen, de portieren zijn opnieuw gespoten en er is een compleet nieuwe airconditioning geïnstalleerd. Verder is de complete Schedoni lederen boordmap eveneens aanwezig.
Kosten noch moeite werden gespaard om deze Ferrari 456 in top staat te houden. De auto rijdt dan ook heerlijk. Rust roest zegt men wel eens, dat gaat op voor mensen maar zeker ook voor auto’s. Vanwege het regelmatige gebruik heeft deze Ferrari daar dan ook geen last van. In een wereld waar auto’s met minder dan 20.000 kilometers de norm lijken te zijn lijkt een kilometerstand van 110.000 kilometer misschien hoog maar als we nagaan dat deze auto inmiddels 27 jaar oud is dan is het jaarlijkse kilometrage slechts 4.000 kilometer. Waarom zou u zo’n geweldenaar ook niet regelmatig gebruiken? dit is een auto om lekker van te genieten en u niet druk te hoeven maken om een paar kilometer meer of minder.
De carrosserie verkeert in goede staat. Het plaatwerk is overduidelijk goed verzorgd en ziet er prachtig uit. De passingen zijn eveneens correct. De zwarte lak verkeert in zeer verzorgde staat. De wielen zien er prachtig uit en zijn al eens opnieuw gespoten.
Het interieur oogt fraai. Het rode leder op de stoelen vormt een fraai contrast tegen de zwarte lak. Het leder is altijd zeer goed verzorgd, dat gecombineerd met het feit dat de stoelen al eens opnieuw zijn gevuld maakt dat u net zo vorstelijk zit als op de dag dat de Ferrari 456 de poorten van Tamsen verliet.
De techniek is precies zoals u dat mag verwachten van een auto met zo’n historie: perfect voor elkaar. De 65 graden 5,5 liter V12 levert 442 pk en klinkt dankzij de aanwezige Tubi Style uitlaat fantastisch. De motor is top fit en is gekoppeld aan een handgeschakelde transmissie met zes versnellingen. De bak schakelt heerlijk en ook de koppeling laat zich precies bedienen. Dankzij het nieuwe onderstel en het gereviseerde stuurhuis heeft de auto een fantastisch rijgedrag en is heerlijk koersvast.
Kortom een Ferrari 456 in onberispelijke conditie met een kilometerstand waarbij u niet hoeft te kijken op een kilometer meer of minder. Met zo’n staat van onderhoud kunt u de stand van 110.000 waarschijnlijk moeiteloos verdubbelen de komende jaren.
