This modified Maruti Omni looks battle ready [Video]

With a rich history in the Indian car market, the Maruti Suzuki Omni has earned a reputation as one of the most versatile offerings from the brand. Known for its cost-effectiveness and practical design, the Omni has been popular among small business owners and private car buyers alike. However, this heavily-modified version of the Omni showcased in a YouTube video by Rohan Robert will change anyone’s perception of the vehicle.

Created as a conversion project by Powerdose UAE, this customized Omni caters to adventure enthusiasts seeking a rugged vehicle for camping in the great outdoors. Sporting a military green matte paint finish, the modified Omni features a robust roll cage for front-end protection. The vehicle also boasts a redesigned front grille, aftermarket rounded LED headlights, an off-road front bumper with integrated LED lights, and auxiliary lamps mounted above it.

Moving to the side profile, the heavily-modified Suzuki Omni is equipped with roll cage protection around the door panels, off-road-spec wheels and tires, side steps, side-mounted exhaust pipes, and aftermarket rearview mirrors. The rear window panels have grille protection panels and jerry cans for storing an additional 40 liters of fuel in case of emergencies. Unlike the stock version, which has sliding rear doors, this Omni has been fitted with gullwing doors reminiscent of the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG, providing a unique aesthetic appeal and serving as overhead shades when open.

Upon opening the rear doors, the Omni reveals side-facing seats capable of accommodating up to four people. The rear of the vehicle features a tailgate-mounted spare tire positioned over a bracket that opens sideways, granting access to the tailgate. Beneath the tailgate, a shower is integrated, supplied with water from a rooftop tank, allowing for outdoor showers while camping. The interior door panels and seat covers boast a camouflage theme, while the stock dashboard retains its original gray layout.

Powering this heavily-modified Omni is the stock 796cc three-cylinder petrol engine, generating 35 PS of maximum power. However, thanks to an aftermarket exhaust, the engine produces a louder and more aggressive sound compared to the stock Omni. The modification cost for this customized Suzuki Omni is estimated to be around 45,000 Dirhams (approximately Rs 9 lakh).

Not legal in India

Such modifications are not legal in India. It is important to acknowledge that these modifications are not legal unless approved by the Regional Transport Office (RTO). Structural alterations pose significant risks, and the vehicle must undergo tests by the Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI) to ensure its roadworthiness. While we are unsure if the authorities checked the vehicle’s documents in this specific case, it’s worth noting that heavily modified vehicles are often promptly confiscated in many parts of India. Nevertheless, we do appreciate the effort and skills involved in creating this vehicle. However, it is crucial to exercise caution when dealing with heavily modified vehicles, particularly those with structural modifications. Such vehicles tend to have weakened structures that may compromise safety.
