Four wild, modified Maruti Omnis from India

Maruti Omni is a vehicle that almost everyone remembers. The boxy looking van was successful as both private and a commercial vehicle. It was an iconic van and was in production for almost 3 decades. Maruti even offered a cargo version specifically for the commercial sector. The design of the van remained the same throughout its life cycle. Unfortunately, due to stricter emission and safety norms, Maruti had to discontinue Omni from Indian market. Like many other cars in the market, Maruti also has a decent fan base in India and there are many who have tastefully restored or modified Omni vans. Here we have four such wild looking modified Maruti Omni vans from different parts of India.

Off-road Omni (Gymni)

It won’t be wrong to say that this was the first modified Omni that went viral on the internet. The modification on this van was done by Indi Garage and Holyshift. The Gymni is actually a combination of Gypsy and Omni. The van actually uses parts from Gypsy which justifies the name. The main attraction on this nardo Grey colour Maruti van are the chunky looking tyres. The off-road spec tyres and rims give Omni height and that elevates the overall look. This is not a regular Omni. It uses rear differential and engine from a Gypsy.

It gets external roll cage, several auxiliary lamps, custom made fender flares, LED headlamps, off-road spec front bumper, luggage rack on the roof and so on. The rear sliding door and the windows have been completely sealed for a rough look.

Gangster Omni

This Omni has been modified by Carbon Automotive. The first thing one would notice on this van are the headlamps. The blacked out headlamps along with the custom made bumper gives its a sporty look. The headlamps are projector units and they go well with the Jet Black paint job of the van. The turn indicators are now LED units and are integrated with custom made front bumper.

Other modifications on this van include wider aftermarket alloy wheels and tyres, exhaust tip popping out from the side and a customised cabin. The sliding doors are all retained but, it gets minor modification. The interior is finished in Red which really stands out.

Lowrider Omni

This Omni belongs to  Nikhil Kumar from Kerela. The car is called Project Stance van. It is a much more advanced looking version of the Gangster Omni. The headlamps have been completely blacked out and instead of halogen, the car gets projector units with integrated LED DRLs. The stock bumper has been replaced with a custom made unit that droops down to a lip spoiler that almost touches the ground.

The fenders have been modified and instead of sliding doors, this van gets gullwing doors. The rear bumper also gets LED tail lamps and the interiors are all finished in black. The metal Green shade on the van looks extremely good too.

Buggy Omni

The Omni modified to look like a Buggy belongs to Farid who hails from a family that have been in car modification business for a long time.  Information on Bharat Autos reveals that the modification and car cost him around Rs. 4.50 Lakhs from scratch. The buggy does not look like an Omni from any angle. There are no doors and the dashboard including the steering wheel is a custom made unit. The instrument cluster remains the same but, it is now placed in the center.

This buggy gets 13 inch off-road spec tyres and aftermarket alloy wheels. Farid has placed Suzuki logo at both front and rear. The whole car is finished in Red and it gets a classic or vintage buggy like design with popping headlamps and round tail lamps.
