The manufacturer wants to cut its greenhouse gas emissions by 25% over the next four years.

As part of its first published environmental, social and governance outlook, Bombardier has set several sustainability goals that will include its operations in Wichita.

The Canadian manufacturer plans to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions by 25% by 2025 while also boosting research and development by 50% on more sustainable aircraft.

“We fully recognize the climate urgency and therefore have prioritized actions to reduce the environmental impact of our site operations and of our products throughout their entire life cycle,” Bombardier CEO Eric Martel said in the ESG report

Those sites include the company’s facility in Wichita, home to a service center, flight-testing work and a special missions group.

Bombardier, which now employs around 1,500 people locally, last February announced plans to end production of the Wichita-built Learjet business jet.

Between that and major divestitures in recent years, Bombardier now is solely focused on the business jet market. New production going forward will focus on its larger Global and Challenger businesses jets that are built in Canada.

Many production workers locally have undergone retraining for service work that will enable them to continue with Bombardier.

Other specific goals from the workforce portion of the report include a reduction of 25% in its lost-time incidence rate among employees by 2025, and achieving a level of at least 30% of management roles being filled by women.
