With his long-standing firm Foster + Partners, Pritzker Prize–winning British architect Norman Foster has revolutionized how architecture can be used to facilitate change in modern life, thanks to his focus on technical innovation, sustainability, and clarity of purpose. His portfolio ranges from airports (including a new one in Kuwait) and museums to private homes and furniture, but his approach has been most influential in office buildings, such as his HSBC Tower in Hong Kong from 1986 and 2018’s circular Apple Park in Cupertino, California. In 2017 he opened the Norman Foster Foundation in Madrid, an institution that promotes interdisciplinary activities and educational programs for the design community to better address pressing issues.
