One detraction from these and most ice grips is that the pins will create a very slippery condition if you walk off an icy surface and onto something without ice. For example, if you walk into a building or store that has tile floor, the pins do not dig in and grip the tile, and you can find yourself sliding all over the place.
I do not recommend these for long times on ice that is over gravel or grass/dirt or other type surfaces. For those applications I recommend STABILicers Walk Traction Ice Cleat and Tread (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000GUCDDG/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1) as they have longer cleats and they are flat (not round pins) and offset at 90 degree angles to provide better grip in both front-to-back and side-to-side directions and they also dig in deeper. These do not work as well on light or thin ice as the cleats can dig through the thin ice and hit the hard surface underneath and leave the rubber bottom elevated off the ice surface and cause the same kind of slipping as if you walked on a hard tile floor.
