Consciousness: A response to Yves Klein’s Anthropometries, By Ava Wadleigh, Documented by Isaac Escovedo

The Exhibition Consciousness, will be in the B_Gallery from February 19th – March 11th. Come visit!

The work responds to Yves Klein’s Anthropometries, wherein Klein directed nude models to paint themselves and press their bodies to a canvas, acting as “living brushes.” Klein remained separate from the act of painting the whole time and famously wore a suit, which remained untouched by paint through the process.

Ava Wadleigh wanted to incorporate play and joy into a revamping of this process of body painting. Where Yves Klein’s original work was about one man using models to make art, Wadleigh wanted to be involved more personally, focus on the models’ consensual participation, and make the process fun for everyone involved.

This exhibition features the painted works created by Wadleigh and the models, as well as a short documentary covering the process.
