Maruti Suzuki Omni to be discountinued | Here’s Why

As we are ready to enter 2019, Bharat Stage VI is also ready to kick in April 2019.Also recently, it was announced that only BS VI compliant cars would be sold in India by April 2020.At the same time, Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL) has confirmed that Maruti Suzuki Omni will not continue beyond October 2020.Also Maruti Suzuki discountinued their one of the most important, Maruti 800.Like Maruti 800, Omni will also see the end of the road as it cannot meet the upcoming safety norms and regulations of BS VI.

Maruti Suzuki Omni having a boxy shape with a flat front could not stand up to the expectations of the new crash test rules.Also, crumple zones in Maruti Suzuki Onmi cannot be installed which can minimise and simultaneously absorb the effect in collision.Although Omni will be discontinued by 2020, Maruti has certain other products under scan to make them compatible so that they could pass the new safety norms.

Exterior features of Omni includes front and rear mud flaps, driver side ORVM, body graphics and conventional headlamps.Comfort and Convenience features includes rear view mirror, adjustable front seat headrest, steering lock, front and rear seat belts, dashboard with cup holder, floor carpet and reclinable front seats.For Safety of the passengers, Maruti has loaded Omni with features like 2 speed windshield wiper, high mount stop lamps, headlamp levelling device and high mount stop lamp.

Maruti Suzuki Omni is selling in large numbers between 6,500 to 7,500 units every month.There are a total of 15.7 million satisfied Omni customers.It was launched back in the year 1984 about 34 years back in 5 seater and 8 seating layout and since then it has demanded very less alterations.What Maruti Suzuki has given to Omni is two facelift in it’s life span.First Omni facelift was introduced 14 years after its launch in 1998.Changes introduced in first facelift were minor exterior reworks including boxy and squared headlamps with slight increase in stance of the car.After 7 years of its first facelift, another facelift of Omni was launched in 2005.Now the changes were made to the cabin as well.While the front fascia of the car received sublte changes to make it look attractive.The cabin of then car got a revised dashboard in it’s second facelift.     

Maruti Suzuki Omni measures 3370 mm in length, is 1410 mm wide and has a height of 1640 mm.The wheelbase of Omni is 1840 mm while the ground clearance of the car is 165 mm with a turning radius of 4.1 metre.Fuel Tank of Omni is 35 litres while the tyre size is 12-inches.Under the hood, Maruti Suzuki Omni gets a 796cc 3-cylinder unit which also powered Maruti Suzuki 800 paired to a 4-speed gearbox.It outputs 35 BHP of power and 59 NM of maximum torque.
