Mimmo Jodice – City Night Dreamer

Born in the heart of Naples where he grew up, Mimmo Jodice became one of the most highly regarded Italian photographers. Jodice ventured into photography in the early 1960’s, working alongside artists like Andy Warhol, Beuys, Kounelis, Lewitt and others.

In his later work, he ventures far from the human subject and into the drama of cityscape photography. Menacing, intimidating, detached and grotesque architecture looms in Jodice’s work.

These cityscapes begin to unfold the silent truths of an exposed city, one that guards against secrets with its jarring culture, lights, and metal structure-only to be turned into a quiet dreamscape through Jodice’s lens. Truly attracted to space and metaphysical presence of city structure, Jodice unfolds these intimate, yet unsettling moments seemingly molded with the clay of the earth.

For workshops approaching visions of Jodice, our City Night workshop offers a dream-like subject in the quiet hours of the night, in the heart of the eternal city.
