iBOT Personal Mobility Device

Posted by Living Spinal on Apr 13th 2023

The iBOT® Personal Mobility Device (or “iBOT® PMD” for short) is an advanced, multi-modal power wheelchair that is manufactured in Manchester, New Hampshire, USA.

Curbs, steep inclines, and rough terrain may get in the way of many wheelchair users’ access to their communities. The iBOT® allows someone with a disability to climb stairs and curbs, go to the beach or on a hike, look people in the eye or reach for that high cabinet. Users can overcome the obstacles that get in the way of their everyday life. It has six distinct modes to address a wide variety of situations all in one device: Stair, 4-Wheel, Balance, Standard, Remote, and Docking.

What’s New?

Since the launch of the iBOT® 4000, the iBOT® PMD’s predecessor, a lot has changed and improved.

  • The iBOT® was fortunate to receive a reclassification from the FDA, changing it from a Class III to a Class II medical device. Mobius Mobility now offers rehab seating from Motion Concepts, and accessories from other leading brands that users and therapists know well. The iBOT® is no longer one-size-fits-all!
  • New battery technology: the iBOT® now features lightweight, high-capacity lithium-ion batteries, that offer extended range capability with dramatically reduced weight. Standard battery packages have a drive range of up to 21.7 miles.
  • Updated joystick, electronics, and control software make for easier and smoother transitions between modes, and a more intuitive, user-friendly experience.
  • New optional features include lighting packages, X-TREME All Terrain wheels, and vehicle lock downs via EZ Lock® automotive securement systems.

With six distinct drive modes the iBOT® helps users to:

  • Navigate varied terrain – sand, snow, grass, gravel, uneven surfaces – then drive inside. One device to meet all needs.
  • Leave the dirt outside – the closed design allows for hosing off the base of dirt and grime.
  • In 4-Wheel and Balance Modes, the iBOT® maintains its seat angle automatically, which is calledTerrain Following. The iBOT® uses iBalance technology to continually keep the seat level, whilethe powerbase pivots over curbs and inclines.
  • Transportability - in Remote Mode, the iBOT® can fold and climb a 20-degree slope to be loadedunoccupied in a vehicle using portable ramps. No modified vehicle required. In addition, theiBOT® features standard four-point tie downs, and has been approved for driving with the EZ-Lock® securement system.

Training – An Important Part of the iBOT® Journey

Training is an important part of the iBOT® journey. Mobius Mobility welcomes new users to our facility in Manchester, New Hampshire for a full two days of training with our experienced team of clinicians.
