Most pizza places serve round-shaped pies (and New Jersey is home to many great ones). However, SQ Pizza in Mahwah stands out from the pack thanks to its square-shaped pizzas; in fact, the SQ stands for square. The pizzeria boasts quality ingredients and specializes in Roman-style pizza.
The owners of SQ Pizza are longtime residents of Mahwah, with children in the school district. The 2000-square-foot eatery boasts a casual vibe and seats 32. “We serve artisanal slices and pies, making pizza better one slice at a time,” say owners Anoush & Chef George Georgiades. They serve pizza by the slice, half a pan (six slices), and full pan (12 slices and 24 inches). “We wanted to provide a different pizza option,” George adds.

The SQ Difference
SQ Pizza makes dough using non-GMO flour they import from Italy. They use a high hydration, low-rising dough that takes 72 hours to make. “The result is a light, airy, easily digestible, and most importantly delicious slice that is better for you than traditional pizza,” George says. They also bake their own bread with the same dough and use it for sandwiches.
So far, popular pies include the margherita (tomato, fresh mozzarella, basil) and Americana (tomato, mozzarella); but customers also enjoy the Meat Lovers (sausage, pepperoni, bacon, mozzarella, tomato), and the Peppi (pepperoni, tomato, mozzarella). Likewise, the Popeye (white pie, spinach, ricotta, mozzarella, oregano) is a big hit. George says his favorite pie is topped with Brussels sprouts and caramelized onion. In addition, SQ Pizza serves classic pies, pizza sandwiches, artisanal sandwiches, salads, and desserts. They can provide catering, as well. Frequent customers can take advantage of their loyalty program and earn points toward free pizzas.
