Fire crews rescued a woman with serious back injuries from beneath the Lynn Canyon suspension bridge Sunday.

Officials say she was using a natural slide popular with thrill seekers when something went wrong on the way down.

Rescue crews had to rig a pulley system from the suspension bridge to pull her out.

“It was quite a long way to the bottom, and with her injuries, it was probably the safest way to get her back up, taking the precautions into consideration,” said North Vancouver Assistant Fire Chief Jason Deroy.

Witnesses say the woman landed hard on her back in an area known as the 90-foot pool.

“I was really concerned, because she wasn't moving, and she was getting really cold, so I just comforted her the best I could,” said Jeff Whitlock who stayed with her during the rescue.
