Numerous and densely placed black blotches on light ground.

Habitat : Inhabits sand and mud surfaces of lagoons near reefs, outreefs and estuaries. Frequently buried. Feeds on fish, crustaceans, molluscs and also jellyfish.
Distribution : Red Sea and East Africa to SW Japan, the Philippines and French Polynesia. Migrated through the Suez Canal into the Eastern Mediterranean.
