Description

FOLDABLE STEMWARE HOLDER AND DISHWASHER HAVING THE SAME
The present invention relates to a stemware holder for use in a domestic dishwasher which has one or more extendable article racks.
Domestic dishwashers are commonly known in the art. A domestic dishwasher generally comprises a tub, and two article racks which are extendably disposed into the tub one above the other. The article rack commonly includes a wire mesh bottom and four wire mesh walls which hold the kitchenware to be cleaned/dried. The kitchenware generally includes cutleries, pots, trays, pans, dishes, glasses, and cups. In order to increase the user convenience, dishwasher manufactures provide various accessories for holding the articles. A commonly known accessory is the cutlery basket which can be removably mounted to the article rack. Another commonly known accessory is the stemware holder which can be removably mounted to the article rack so as to hold the stemware such as wine glasses. A common problem with the prior art domestic dishwasher is that the stemware holder is only rarely needed, and thus unnecessarily occupies useful space inside the article rack when it is only partly or not at all loaded with the stemware.
US 2014/0021149 A1 discloses a prior art domestic dishwasher which comprises a stemware holder. In this domestic dishwasher the stemware holder is detachably attachable to the article rack.
An objective of the present invention is to provide a stemware holder for use in a domestic dishwasher which solves the problems of the prior art in a cost effective way and which enables a more efficient utilization of the space inside the article rack and which has an improved usability.
This objective has been achieved by the stemware holder as defined in claim 1, and the dishwasher as defined in claim 11. Further achievements have been attained by the subject-matters respectively defined in the dependent claims.
The stemware holder of the present invention comprises a foldable body which includes at least two wings which are hinged to each other. The foldable body has at least one unfolded state for holding the stemware, and a collapsed state for stowage. Each wing has a separate holding means for holding a plurality of stemware. The foldable body is detachably and selectively attachable, in the unfolded state, by means of its attachment means to at least one of the walls of the selected rack.
A major advantageous effect of the present invention is that by virtue of the foldable body the user can collapse the stemware holder and stow it away inside one of the article racks or outside the tub in order to save useful space when it is not needed. Another major advantageous effect of the present invention is that by virtue of the foldable body the user can unfold the stemware holder into one of the available unfolded states and attach it to the selected rack. Thereby, the user can more flexibly place the articles into the racks and more efficiently utilize the space inside the racks.
In an embodiment, the wings completely mutually overlap in the collapsed state. This embodiment is particularly advantageous as the stemware holder occupies comparatively less space in the collapsed state, and thus can be easily stowed away inside one of the article racks or outside the tub in a kitchen cupboard. In a version of this embodiment, each wing is provided as a generally elongated member with a flat top/bottom surface so as to attain a space-saving stemware holder both in the collapsed state and in the unfolded states.
According to the present invention the stemware holder may have one or more unfolded states which conform to the walls of the racks. In another embodiment, the foldable body has two unfolded states. In the first unfolded state, the wings extend in mutually opposite directions. In this embodiment, the wings can be detachably attached in the first unfolded state to the same wall of the selected rack. For instance, the wings can be attached to any one of the sidewalls, the front wall and the rear wall. This embodiment is particularly advantageous when the user intends to use both wings of the stemware holder and attach it to the same flank of the selected rack. In the second unfolded state, the wings extend in mutually perpendicular directions. In this embodiment, the wings can be detachably attached, in the second unfolded state, to two mutually perpendicular walls. For instance, the wings can be attached to any one of the corners of the selected rack. This embodiment is particularly advantageous when the user intends to use only one of the wings of the stemware holder and/or when the user intends to further save space in order to load large sized articles into the same rack.
In another embodiment, each holding means has one or more notches for receiving the stems of the stemware respectively. This embodiment is particularly advantageous as the notches reliably secure the stems in position and eliminate or reduce the risk that the stemware becomes dislocated and tilted. In alternative versions of this embodiment, the notches have same or various different sizes so as to match with the various different stems of the stemware which are available on the market. In other alternative versions of this embodiment, the notches have keyhole shapes to facilitate the reception of the stemware and improve the gripping of their stems.
In another embodiment, one or both holding means of the wings have openings for the vertical reception of the cutlery. This embodiment is particularly advantageous when the cutlery basket is already full or the cutlery has a comparatively large size and does not easily fit into the cutlery basket. In such instances the user can use the stemware holder also as a cutlery holder.
In another embodiment, the wings have support surfaces which can be used to support the kitchen utensils from below. This embodiment is particularly advantageous as the stemware holder can be alternately used to effectively arrange the heavily soiled pots, pans, trays into rack. Thereby, the kitchen utensils can be effectively sprayed with the washing fluid and the washing performance of the dishwasher can be increased.
In other alternative embodiments, the attachment means has various types of connections respectively each for detachably attaching the foldable body to the selected rack. For instance the attachment means may have interlocking connections, clamping connections, snap connections, or screw connections. These embodiments are particularly advantageous as the attachment/detachment can be greatly facilitated. Of course, other type of connections known those skilled in the art can be alternatively used. In another embodiment, the stemware holder has a snap connection for deattachably attaching the foldable body to the wire of the rack.
