Abstract

A system for verifying the presence of a mobile communication device (MCD) at a physical site, the system comprising an on-site computing device (OSD) and a remote verification server (VS), the server being communicative with the OSD and with the MCD, wherein- - the OSD has associated therewith a unique identification code and a unique encryption key and is operative to measure elapsed time from a reference time, to generate a site message that contains (a) a current value of the elapsed time, encrypted according to the encryption key, and (b) the identification code and to make the site message available to the MCD while, and only while, the MCD is present at the site; - the MCD, while present at the site, is operative to obtain the site message from the OSD and to send it to the VS.
