Abstract
The invention relates to a floating device that is moved by waves in order to absorb and degrade hydrocarbons floating on the surface of the water, without the supply of energy. The invention comprises four main elements, namely: an upper cone (2) including a series of peripheral openings (8) by means of which the hydrocarbons can enter the device; a second element positioned inside the upper cone (2), in the form of a bag (6) made from an oleophilic, textile or other type material, which absorbs the hydrocarbon and allows same to pass therethrough; a third element consisting of a culture of bacteria which degrade the hydrocarbons, converting same into non-polluting materials, said third element being confined within the bag (6); and a final section in the form of a cone (3) which is positioned beneath the preceding sections and which receives a ballast that allows the device to float in the correct position. The movement of the device by the swell shakes the bacteria sufficiently in order to renew the digester layer that forms inside the oleophilic bag (6). The hydrocarbon digestion increases the quantity of bacteria and residue inside the device, such that the latter begins to sink and once a pre-determined threshold has been reached it must be removed from the liquid for cleaning and maintenance.
