Description

TRANSMISSION SYSTEM, SUBSCRIBER TERMINAL AND TRANSMISSION METHOD FOR INTEGRATED ADVERTISEMENT THROUGH SEVERAL BROADCASTING CHANNEL
The present invention relates to a system for transmitting a multi-channel integrated advertisement, a subscriber terminal for multi-channel integrated advertisement, and a method for transmitting a multi-channel integrated advertisement, and more particularly, to advertisement transmission technology involved in broadcast schedule information of an IPTV broadcast, for example.
In IPTV broadcasting, a greater number of broadcast channels and an increasing number of small scale channels cause to decrease advertisement revenue. That is, as the number of the small scale channels increases, the number of viewers viewing a broadcasting program of each channel decreases and advertisement revenue for each broadcast channel is reduced because advertisement rates are generally proportional to the number of viewers exposed to an advertisement.
Since advertisers desire to perform advertisements through broadcast channels having many viewers, it is difficult to collect advertisements for a small scale. Therefore, advertisement revenue of a small scale channel is reduced.
Viewers do not view broadcast programs through one broadcast channel but view the broadcast programs over several channels. Accordingly, for conventional technology in which an advertisement contract is made for each channel and an independent advertisement is provided for each channel, it is difficult for advertisers to recognize a number of exposures of their advertisements in all channels and to determine whether moderate advertisement is performed.
Therefore, the present inventor studied new advertisement technology capable of providing advertisements integrated for all channels for moderate advertisement and distributing advertisement revenue even to small scale broadcast channels.
One aspect of the present invention provides a system and method capable of matching advertisement contents to selected advertisement slots among advertisement slots included in broadcast schedule information of a plurality of broadcast channel servers, according to advertisement transmission rule, and transmitting an advertisement.
Another aspect of the present invention provides a system and method capable of matching advertisement contents to selected advertisement slots among advertisement slots included in broadcast schedule information of a plurality of broadcast channel servers, according to advertisement transmission rule and user preference information, and transmitting an advertisement.
Yet another aspect of the present invention provides a system and method capable of matching advertisement contents to selected advertisement slots among advertisement slots included in broadcast schedule information of a plurality of broadcast channel servers, according to advertisement transmission rule and channel viewing information, and transmitting an advertisement.
According to the present invention, an integrated advertisement for all channels can be provided for moderate advertisement and advertisement revenue can be distributed even to small scale broadcast channels.

FIG. 7 is a flowchart of an advertisement transmission operation of a multi-channel integrated advertisement transmission system according to another exemplary embodiment of the present invention.
Hereinafter, exemplary embodiments of the present invention will be described in detail. However, the present invention is not limited to the exemplary embodiments disclosed below, but can be implemented in various types. Therefore, the present exemplary embodiments are provided for complete disclosure of the present invention and to fully inform the scope of the present invention to those ordinarily skilled in the art.
FIG. 1 illustrates a multi-channel integrated advertisement transmission system according to the present invention. As shown in FIG. 1, a multi-channel integrated advertisement transmission system 100 according to the present invention is interworked with a plurality of broadcast channel servers 200 and provides an integrated advertisement to subscriber terminals 300 connected to the respective broadcast channel servers 200.
In the present invention, an integrated advertisement refers to an selected advertisement managed in an integrated manner so that the advertisement is provided at different time slots for each broadcast channel. The subscriber terminals are user-side devices, such as set-top boxes that receive broadcast contents and reproduce the broadcast contents through a television (TV) set.
For example, the multi-channel integrated advertisement transmission system 100 according to the present invention is interworked with an IPTV broadcasting system to service interactive multimedia contents made by program providers (PPs) or content providers (CPs) through the plurality of broadcast channels, in which the integrated advertisement is provided to the subscriber terminals 300 connected to the broadcast channels through the multi-channel integrated advertisement transmission system 100.
FIG. 2 is a block diagram of a multi-channel integrated advertisement transmission system according to one exemplary embodiment of the present invention. As shown in FIG. 2, the multi-channel integrated advertisement transmission system 100 according to the present exemplary embodiment may include a first database 110, a second database 120, and an advertisement transmission controller 130.
The first database 110 stores advertisement transmission rule. The advertisement transmission rule is information related to advertisement execution conditions desired by each advertiser. For example, the rule may include an advertisement period, an advertisement time slot, an advertisement exposure number, and advertisement type information for each advertiser. The rule may further include information such as a broadcast type for an advertisement, a preferred channel, etc.
FIG. 3 illustrates an example of the advertisement transmission rule. For example, the advertisement transmission rule is set for advertiser A to include an advertisement period of 40 days beginning on Jan. 1, 2008, an advertisement time slot between 10 o'clock and 12 o'clock, and an exposure number of 3 a day.
The second database 120 stores advertisement contents. That is, the second database 120 stores advertisement contents of advertisers that are provided online or offline.
The advertisement transmission controller 130 controls to match selected advertisement contents among the advertisement contents stored in the second database 120 to selected advertisement slots among advertisement slots included in respective broadcast schedule information of the plurality of broadcast channel servers 200, according to the advertisement transmission rule stored in the first database 110, and to transmit the advertisement.
After transmitting the advertisement, the advertisement transmission controller 130 stores details of advertisement transmission in a third database 140. The advertisement transmission controller 130 selecting advertisement slots and matching advertisement contents according to exemplary embodiments will be described later.
FIG. 4 illustrates an example of broadcast schedule information. It can be seen that, for example, broadcast channel 1 includes one advertisement slot 1-1 between broadcast content 1-1 and broadcast content 1-2, broadcast channel 2 includes two advertisement slots 2-1 and 2-2 between broadcast content 2-1 and broadcast content 2-2, and broadcast channel 3 includes one advertisement slot 3-1 within the same broadcast content 3-1.
For example, some of advertisement slots included in broadcast schedule information of a specific broadcast channel server may be set among small scale advertisement slots for advertisements provided by only the broadcast channel server, and the others may be set as global advertisement slots for integrated advertisements provided by the multi-channel integrated advertisement transmission system 100 according to the present invention.
In this case, the advertisement transmission controller 130 selects advertisement slots set as global advertisement slots of the advertisement slots included in the respective broadcast schedule information of the plurality of broadcast channel servers 200, selects advertisement content according to the advertisement transmission rule, and matches the advertisement content to the selected advertisement slots to perform integrated advertisement.
Each broadcast channel server 200 transmits an advertisement provided by only the broadcast channel server at a time slot set as the small scale advertisement slot, and transmits the advertisement content matched by the advertisement transmission controller 130 according to the advertisement transmission rule, through the multi-channel integrated advertisement transmission system 100 according to the present exemplary embodiment at a time slot set as the global advertisement slot.
Thus, the multi-channel integrated advertisement transmission system 100 according to the present exemplary embodiment provides integrated advertisements for all channels for execution of a moderate advertisement, and distributes advertisements even to small scale broadcast channels for distribution of advertisement revenue, thereby achieving the foregoing object of the present invention.
According to additional aspects of the present invention, the advertisement transmission controller 130 may be embodied to select advertisement content based also on preference information received from the subscriber terminal 300.
The preference information includes an advertisement type preferred by each subscriber, such as a sports advertisement, a beverage advertisement, etc. Setting the preference information will be described later.
The advertisement transmission controller 130 may select any one of advertisement contents of an advertisement type corresponding to the preference information received from the subscriber terminal 300, according to the advertisement period, the advertisement time slot and the advertisement exposure number included in the advertisement transmission rule as shown in FIG. 3.
According to additional aspects of the present invention, the advertisement transmission controller 130 may be embodied to select advertisement contents based also on channel viewing information collected from the respective broadcast channel servers 200 in real time.
For this, the multi-channel integrated advertisement transmission system 100 may further include a channel viewing information collection unit 150. The channel viewing information collection unit 150 collects channel viewing information from the respective broadcast channel servers 200 in real time.
Parent nodes in a network may recognize a connection state of their child nodes. Accordingly, as shown in FIG. 1, the broadcast channel servers 200 that are parent nodes may recognize a connection state of the subscriber terminals 300 that are child nodes in real time.
That is, each broadcast channel server 200 may recognize the number of subscriber terminals 300 viewing its broadcast program at a time point at which an advertisement slot included in its broadcast schedule information is located.
Since the number of subscriber terminals 300 viewing a broadcast program provided by the specific broadcast channel server 200 at a specific time point can be counted based on an advertisement exposure number, the channel viewing information collection unit 150 in the multi-channel integrated advertisement transmission system 100 according to the present exemplary embodiment collects the channel viewing information, i.e., the number of the subscriber terminals 300 viewing the broadcast program, provided by the broadcast channel server 200, from the broadcast channel servers 200 in real time.
Since the channel viewing information, i.e., the number of the subscriber terminals 300 viewing the broadcast program, provided by the broadcast channel server 200 may be counted based on the advertisement exposure number, which is included in the advertisement transmission rule that is information related to advertisement execution conditions desired by advertisers, the advertisement transmission controller 130 selects advertisement content at a time point corresponding to the selected one of the advertisement slots included in the broadcast schedule information of the specific broadcast channel server, using the advertisement exposure number and the advertisement transmission rule.
For example, when the number of the subscriber terminals 300 currently viewing the broadcast program provided by the broadcast channel server 200 at a time point corresponding to the advertisement slot included in the broadcast schedule information of the specific broadcast channel server 200 is 3108 and a remaining advertisement exposure number of specific advertisement content included in the advertisement transmission rule is 3213, the advertisement content may be selected as advertisement content to be provided at a current point in time.
According to additional aspects of the present invention, the advertisement transmission controller 130 may be embodied to take over a broadcast transmission control right from the broadcast channel server at a time point corresponding to the selected one of the advertisement slots included in the broadcast schedule information of the specific broadcast channel server 200 and transmit the selected advertisement content according to the advertisement transmission rule.
That is, in order to provide the integrated advertisement provided by the multi-channel integrated advertisement transmission system 100 according to the present invention to the subscriber terminals 300 connected to the respective broadcast channel servers 200, each broadcast channel server 200 must transfer the broadcast transmission control right to the multi-channel integrated advertisement transmission system 100 at a start time point of the selected one of the advertisement slots included in the broadcast schedule information of the broadcast channel server 200.
In response to a request to take over the broadcast transmission control right from the broadcast channel server 200, the multi-channel integrated advertisement transmission system 100 according to the present invention takes over the broadcast transmission control right from the broadcast channel server through the advertisement transmission controller 130 and transmits the selected advertisement content according to the advertisement transmission rule, the advertisement transmission rule and the preference information, or the advertisement transmission rule and the channel viewing information, to perform the advertisement.
According to additional aspects of the present invention, when the selected advertisement slots among the advertisement slots included in the broadcast schedule information of the specific broadcast channel server 200 are successive, the advertisement transmission controller 130 may be embodied to take over the broadcast transmission control right from the broadcast channel server at a time point corresponding to the first advertisement slot of the successive advertisement slots.
Referring to FIG. 4, broadcast channel 2 includes two advertisement slots 2-1 and 2-2 between broadcast content 2-1 and broadcast content 2-2. However, the advertisement transmission controller 130 taking over the broadcast transmission control right from the broadcast channel server at respective time points corresponding to the two advertisement slots causes waste of network resources.
Accordingly, when the advertisement slots are successive, the advertisement transmission controller 130 takes over the broadcast transmission control right from the broadcast channel server at a time point corresponding to the first advertisement slot of the successive advertisement slots, thereby preventing unnecessary waste of network resources.
According to additional aspects of the present invention, the advertisement transmission controller 130 may return the broadcast transmission control right to the broadcast channel server when advertisement content transmission is completed.
That is, after performing the integrated advertisement provided by the multi-channel integrated advertisement transmission system 100 according to the present invention, each broadcast channel server 200 must recall the broadcast transmission control right from the multi-channel integrated advertisement transmission system 100 in order to resume broadcasting according to its broadcast schedule information.
For this, the advertisement transmission controller 130 returns the broadcast transmission control right to the broadcast channel server when advertisement content transmission is completed. The broadcast channel server 200 then resumes broadcasting according to its broadcast schedule information.
According to additional aspects of the present invention, the multi-channel integrated advertisement transmission system 100 may further include an advertising expenditure processor 160. The advertising expenditure processor 160 settles advertisement rates for the integrated advertisement for each broadcast channel server 200 according to the advertisement transmission rule, the advertisement transmission rule and the preference information, or the advertisement transmission rule and the channel viewing information.
That is, in the present exemplary embodiment, the advertisement rate for the advertisement contents provided from advertisers or distributed to the broadcast channel servers 200 and transmitted to the subscriber terminals 300 according to the advertisement transmission rule and the preference information or the advertisement transmission rule and the channel viewing information by the multi-channel integrated advertisement transmission system 100 is settled for each broadcast channel server.
For example, since details of the advertisement transmission are stored in the third database 140 when the advertisement transmission controller 130 transmits the advertisement contents for each broadcast channel server 200, the advertising expenditure processor 160 may settle advertisement rates for the integrated advertisement for each broadcast channel server 200 using the details of the advertisement transmission.
FIG. 5 is a block diagram of a subscriber terminal for multi-channel integrated advertisement according to one exemplary embodiment of the present invention. The subscriber terminal for multi-channel integrated advertisement 300 according to the present exemplary embodiment includes a database 310, an advertisement requester 320, and an advertisement processor 330.
The database 310 stores preference information. The preference information includes an advertisement type preferred by each subscriber, such as a sports advertisement, a beverage advertisement, etc.
For a specific advertisement slot included in the broadcast schedule information of a specific broadcast channel server, the advertisement requester 320 requests the multi-channel integrated advertisement transmission system 100 to provide an advertisement according to the preference information stored in the database 310.
The subscriber terminal for multi-channel integrated advertisement 300 according to the present exemplary embodiment transfers the broadcast transmission control right to the multi-channel integrated advertisement transmission system 100 while requesting the multi-channel integrated advertisement transmission system 100 to provide an advertisement corresponding to the preference information set by the user and stored in the database 310 through the advertisement requester 320, at a start time point of the specific advertisement slot included in the broadcast schedule information of the specific broadcast channel server.
The advertisement processor 330 receives the advertisement content selected according to the advertisement transmission rule and the preference information from the multi-channel integrated advertisement transmission system 100 and reproduces the advertisement content.
Upon receipt of a request for an advertisement according to the preference information from the subscriber terminal for multi-channel integrated advertisement 300, the multi-channel integrated advertisement transmission system 100 transmits the selected advertisement content according to the advertisement transmission rule and the preference information as described above, to the subscriber terminal 300 for multi-channel integrated advertisement.
The subscriber terminal 300 for multi-channel integrated advertisement then receives the advertisement content selected according to the advertisement transmission rule and the preference information from the multi-channel integrated advertisement transmission system 100 through the advertisement processor 330 and reproduces the advertisement content, to perform the integrated advertisement for all the channels that reflects user preference. Thus, a user request can be reflected and advertisement revenue can be distributed even to small scale broadcast channels.
According to additional aspects of the present invention, the subscriber terminal 300 for multi-channel integrated advertisement may further include a preference information setting unit 340. The preference information setting unit 340 provides a user interface for setting preference information, receives the preference information from the user through the user interface, and stores the preference information in the database 310.
For example, a user may be provided with the user interface for setting the preference information through a TV connected to the subscriber terminal 300 for multi-channel integrated advertisement, and may input the preference information by operating a remote control or a button.
The input preference information is stored in the database 310 and transmitted to the multi-channel integrated advertisement transmission system 100 through the advertisement requester 320 at a start time point of a specific advertisement slot included in the broadcast schedule information of the specific broadcast channel server to request the advertisement according to the preference information.
An advertisement transmission operation of the multi-channel integrated advertisement transmission system according to the present invention as described above will be described with reference to FIGS. 6 and 7. FIG. 6 is a flowchart of an advertisement transmission operation of the multi-channel integrated advertisement transmission system according to one exemplary embodiment of the present invention.
First, when a request to take over the broadcast transmission control right is received from the broadcast channel server at the start point of the advertisement slot included in the broadcast schedule information of the specific broadcast channel server, the multi-channel integrated advertisement transmission system takes over the broadcast transmission control right from the broadcast channel server (S110), and then collects channel viewing information from the broadcast channel server in real time (S120).
The multi-channel integrated advertisement transmission system then compares a number of subscriber terminals viewing a broadcast program provided by the broadcast channel server, recognized from the channel viewing information collected in real time, and a remaining advertisement exposure number set in each advertisement content included in the advertisement transmission rule, and selects any one of advertisement contents for which the subscriber terminal number is smaller than the advertisement exposure number (S130).
When the advertisement content is selected in operation S130, the multi-channel integrated advertisement transmission system multicasts the advertisement contents to subscriber terminals connected to the broadcast channel server to transmit the advertisement (S140), and then returns the broadcast transmission control right to the broadcast channel server (S150).
Thus, the integrated advertisement for all channels can be provided for moderate advertisement execution, and the advertisement is distributed even to the small scale broadcast channels for advertisement revenue distribution, thereby achieving the foregoing object of the present invention.
FIG. 7 is a flowchart of an advertisement transmission operation of the multi-channel integrated advertisement transmission system according to another exemplary embodiment of the present invention.
First, upon receipt of a request to take over the broadcast transmission control right from the broadcast channel server at the start point of the advertisement slot included in the broadcast schedule information of the specific broadcast channel server, the multi-channel integrated advertisement transmission system takes over the broadcast transmission control right from the broadcast channel server (S210), and then receives a request for an advertisement according to preference information from each subscriber terminal connected to the broadcast channel server 300 (S220).
The multi-channel integrated advertisement transmission system then selects advertisement content for each subscriber terminal according to the preference information from each subscriber terminal received in operation S220 and the advertisement transmission rule (S230).
In this case, the multi-channel integrated advertisement transmission system may select one of advertisement contents of an advertisement type corresponding to the preference information received from the subscriber terminal 300, according to an advertisement period, an advertisement time slot, and an advertisement exposure number included in the advertisement transmission rule as shown in FIG. 3.
When the advertisement content is selected in operation S230, the multi-channel integrated advertisement transmission system unicasts the selected advertisement content to each subscriber terminal to transmit the advertisement (S240), and then returns the broadcast transmission control right to the broadcast channel server (S250).
Thus, the integrated advertisement for all the channels can be provided based also on the user preference and advertisement revenue can be distributed even to small scale broadcast channels, thereby achieving the foregoing object of the present invention.
The present invention is applicable to broadcasting technology, advertisement transmission technology, or applications thereof.
While the invention has been shown and described with reference to certain exemplary embodiments thereof, it will be understood by those skilled in the art that various changes in form and details may be made therein without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as defined by the appended claims.
