Abstract

The invention relates to an electronic ballast (EVG) which can be flexibly used for different lamp types and which requires less memory space in the electronic ballast. For this purpose, an electronic ballast (3) for a lamp comprises a processor for controlling the lamp and a memory in which an operating program is stored to operate the processor according to a predetermined operating procedure. The operating program can be fed to the memory via a standard data interface (5). The electronic ballast can thus be used for different lamp types and allows subsequent system expansions or function expansions.
