Abstract
The invention or utility model relates to needles which have been designed in order to provide numerous significant advantages over existing needles intended for similar purposes, such as the liquid irrigation of endodontically treated teeth. More specifically, the needles have been designed for the insufflation of ozone/oxygen in endodontic treatments or periodontal treatments. Current oral treatments use low concentrations of ozone and the devices and apparatuses have been designed to prevent same from entering the respiratory tract. The technique employed according to the invention prevents the respiratory epithelium from being damaged, while allowing a high concentration of ozone/oxygen to be used. The ozone can be administered sublingually or through the oral mucosa without any risk to the respiratory epithelium and, as such, ozone-derived products, including ozone itself, properly conveyed to said zones prevents any risk of toxicity in the lung. Moreover, the reactive property of the ozone is produced at the first point of contact, with the germicidal activity thereof being reduced in the farthest zones. The desired disinfection result to be achieved along the length of the duct and the periodontal pockets is optimised when multiple contact points are obtained using a needle that has been microperforated at various points along the length thereof and over the entire periphery of same. The ozone/oxygen gas must be insufflated slowly, 20 cc in five minutes. Ozone concentrations of up to 50 micrograms can be used, but ambient air is never used as an ozone generation source; bottled medical oxygen being used instead.
